I have this sitting on the shelf. Its a '70 Ram Air 4 speed carb. My '72 needs a carb with correct linkage so I can make the scoop work. I am kind of reluctant to use this as it is not correct for a 455HO even though it'll work..

I would do it.

Suppose you could have the throttle body disassembled & throttle shaft changed from the earlier style to the '72 style. That would allow the correct '72 & later style cable attachment vs the earlier pin/cotter key style bolt on lever. With the shaker switch engagement on a '72 T/A being down off the gas pedal/kick down switch the style of carb lever doesn't really come into play, other than the idle stop function. If your '72 is a turbo 400 car, & missing its original T400 kick down switch, let me know, I'll look at the resistor on the side of a '72 T/A nos auto kick down switch. You can source a resistor with the correct value, so the standard kickdown switch can be modded.

Door 2, of course, source the correct 72 Qjet. sell/trade the highly desirable 7040273 for a nice 7042273 or 7042270 & cash or other hard to find parts.

If I were you I'd swap out that carb for one my SD carbs. I'd get a correct carb for my 70 and you'd get a better performing carburetor for your 72. Seems like a win win.

You could swap out the throttle shaft, but I'd seriously look at another option and save that 70 carb for a correct application. Not hard to find a carburetor that will out perform a 70 Ram Air carb and deliver a more pleasurable driving experience.

71GP76TA, as 'Ol Pinion head stated earlier, your 72 T/A scoop flap operates from the kickdown switch mounted on the gas pedal inside the car. (both automatic and manual trans cars)
It's not the same as the carb mounted switch like on your 70 T/A's.
It would be best to find the correct 7042273 with the bowl vent so the air cleaner base and scoop will be pointed in the right direction, also.

My '72 does not have the gas pedal switch. It does appear to have the plug. The carb that is currently on the car is a ' 72 service replacement for an automatic.

IIRC. All non 6 cly cars in 72 got same gas pedal bracket for th400 and or shaker switch. Its a big bracket, not the one you have. Bolts behind the plastic part with same 3 screws. Wiring is built into harness. Hope you find a great solution.

They used the electric kickdown from the gas pedal from 72-up for a few years on automatic cars. As stated, the only difference would be the resistor when they tied in the shaker.
