Default Ever track down your old car you sold?

Just wondering if anyone ever tried or even had any luck tracking down an old car they used to own? I am interested in locating my '72 LeMans I owned about 20 years or so ago. The person whom I bought it from and eventually sold back to passed away a few years back. He had sold the car sometime in the mid 90's and that's the last I heard of the car. Was a T-41 car, Lucern Blue with 350 auto. Nothing super special on options but a very nice clean original car.

The picture is scanned from the original. Anyhow this is the '72 I owned 20 years ago!

I tracked down my first car with devastating results. Sold it in a moment of weakness and years later I tracked down the guy who bought. After the next owner decided to sell it and couldn't (I looked at it when it was for sale and I passed!), he parted it and brought the shell to a metal recycler. I was in such a deep funk for a week or two.

The pictures were taken the day I sold it- the only time I ever drove it in the winter.

I finally found a replacement four years ago. My wife loves that car and that is her striping the driveway. I'm sure the neighbors thought it was me!

Wow! Too bad! Looks like it was a pretty sweet car. I thought about that same possibility of things not being the same. Or the possibility it may be wrecked. That would suck!

Your replacement looks pretty awesome too! I like the Judge stripe! Make sure to hang onto it!

I always get the name and number of who I sold cars to. I had to sell my 70 Lemans when I moved into the house I'm living in. (Needed the money to finish the house) I bought and sold a few cars then scored a Porsche and made good money on it. Told the wife I'm going to get my car back. Called the guy who I sold it to. ( we talked once a year I always kept in touch) He put 110 miles on it never did anything to it, I got it back for $3000.00 less than what I sold it for!!!!!!!!!!

Somewhat of a tangent, but when I was 17 I looked at a 1968 Cougar with a 428 CJ and 4-speed, Black Cherry with red interior, standard and not XR-7. This was in New Castle, DE.

Always wanted to know what happened to it, but could never track it down.

Last week, I spoke with a Cougar expert who was headed to a show I was going to visit in Orange County, CA. I told him about this car and he said, "Did it have a red interior and was a standard Cougar?" I told him I recalled the red interior but wasn't too sure. Seems that the car was originally black/red, and now it's being restored in SoCal, so I prob will be able to revisit this car almost 30 years later. Apparently it was in much worse condition than when I saw it.

It can be done but without a modern VIN will be harder to find. Having a LEO friend would help immensely but would also endanger his employment.

I found my old 57 Corvette 2 years ago; I sold it to a dealer in 1990.

I found it by searching for the VIN.
Got a hit on a google search; the car had been listed and sold at a Florida auction.
I contacted the auction company and told them I would like to contact the buyer. They provided my contact info to the buyer and we had a couple of conversations about the car.
I sent the new owner scans of all many of my restoration photos; it was fun trip down memory lane.

That's awesome! Would you buy it back if you had the opportunity? I threw the vin on google but wasn't lucky enough to any results.

Man! What a great story Boss! Lots of twists and turns it looks like! So cool you got it back and in reasonable shape. The Wisconsin winters here can be brutal on cars.

The last lead I have on my Lemans was it was sold sometime around 1995 at Jefferson Swap Meet. So it still could be in Wisconsin but that was a long time ago. I have a buddy who was a former cop and another that is a PI that is looking into it so we will see where that goes.

I've thought about buying it back, but that car is now worth much more than I'm willing to pay.

But, it sure would be nice to have it back....

Well, talked with one of my buddies tonight that is looking into my old '72. He says he might have some info for me by this Friday. Hopefully it's still alive!

Either my tastes are changing or as I get older I am really appreciating all of the older Pontiacs that were built. Back when I had my LeMans, I thought the endura front end was way better looking than the standard grills that came on the car. But I have now grown to love that style as much as the endura option.

That would be a fun one to get back - I can see a nice white GT stripe down the side!

Yep.
Went to DMV (AK 1985) with vin after reading about Dan Jensen's car on MCR.
Found it in a snow bank in Anchorage about 10 mules from where I lived.

Bought it back for $200. Sold the SBS that was in it w/the pg for $200.
So got it for free.
Found the original engine form$200 at WDCreech's.
Not a bad deal.
