I had a 71 GTO cream puff, loaded 3 speed stick...triple black i bought in 83...i traded it for a 67 GT 390 4speed Fastback mustang..yrars later i wanted the GTO back..and i found it..so sad..it had been wrapped around a telephone pole..i actually teared up...and said thats it..i dont want to know about any of my other cars...id rather remeber them the way i used and tortured them instead of seeing them ruined..

i recently in the last few years tried locating my 69 Golden Rod Judge and came up empty...sad...

That's not a bad idea Boss! The '72 in this pic is in town here and it had the stripe down the side. I had never seen that before in person and thought it looked good.

Was that a factory option for that year or something that was dealer installed?

Wow...that's terrible. Sorry for your loss. I'm crossing my fingers this one hasn't traveled down that road. But I guess stirring around in the past, you have to ready for anything. Maybe I should just look for something else and save myself from a let down...

So got it for free.
Found the original engine form$200 at WDCreech's.
Not a bad deal.
Damn Jack - I thought you had it the whole time!

The strobe stripe or sperm whale stripe as it is called by some would be the stripe option on the Lemans Sport. The GT stripe would be on the GT.

I think this one used to be Pat Brown's - I like the solid stripe more than the strobe stripe but my 72 convertible is supposed to have the strobe.

Old pick of my car with the correct stripes on it (and the wrong decals).

Still wondering whatever happened to my first new GTO. It's been 47 years since I last saw my '67 GTO (242177P261831). As a Midwest car it probably rusted away years ago.
Did a thread on it in the '66-'67 Forum a few years back.

Boss,
No. At the time it was just another car and sold it to a guy who gave me cash for it. Fisherman with money. He spun the bearings in it when he ran it out of oil a couple of months after I put a set of RA-IV heads on it for $500. Bought the whole engine back for $600 including the old HO heads. Put it in a '65 GTO. Then sold that a couple of years later when I lost interest in cars. That got revived that in '85.

The complete history is here somewhere. Search under my name and you can find it. It is in threads I started. Cannot put link here as on iPad. Maybe later.

Well, looks like I am still waiting on my info. Appears that some things have changed how the DMV and LEO's handle that sort of information so my LEO friend was unable to check. My PI buddy has sort of run into the same trouble but said he would still be able to get me the info. Still waiting!

Been checking craigslist and ebay too for a possible replacement however! LOL It's gonna be hard waiting until Spring Jefferson to see what they might have but I may have to as well.

I'm sure the right car will come along sooner or later!

Got some fantastic news today regarding my inquery about my '72 LeMans I sold roughly 20 yrs ago! My friend was able to come through and obtain the current owners name and the car is still in Wisconsin! I will be contacting him to get the lowdown on it! Can't believe it's still around and not too far away from me!

Great news and surprising how easy it is once you get the right information!

Well I am not sure if it was too tacky to do it this way, but I found the guy on Facebook and sent him a message. I guess we will see if he responds. I have his address but no phone number and couldn't wait for snail mail to get a response! His profile pic and cover pic both show a Lucerne Blue '72. If it's the same car, there have been some changes to it from when I originally had the car.

I think that's okay. If the original owner of my car contacted me I would love to speak to him even if I did not want to sell the car.

The guy on facebook replied to my inquiry! Sound like it is in fact my old '72 Lemans. I told him that my friend took it Jefferson Swap meet around 1995 and sold it there. He confirmed that he did indeed buy it from Jefferson 20 yrs ago. He had changed some things on the car however. He took out the blue cloth bench and put buckets in it. Looks like he had it repainted and added a hood tach, and spoiler to it. He must have also removed the side molding. Car looks fantastic! Even looks like what I was thinking of doing to it if I were to get it back. I let him know that I would be interested in buying the car back should he ever decide to sell it.

Here are some pics from his facebook page...

That's cool! I love the color. I always keep saying hello to the person every so often and let them know I still want the car. Took me 2.5 years to buy the car I have now.

That's what I was thinking of doing. Not sure though if I scared the guy off or not. He responded to my first message but not the next two. I could be reading into something that's not there but I guess maybe it freaked the guy out a little bit because I knew a bunch of information about it and him. I really meant no harm by it. Just really love the car and regret getting rid of it! I guess if the shoe was on my foot, I wouldn't mind talking to previous owners of a car I do own now. I think it's awesome to know the history of the car and where it has been. Maybe that's just me!
