Water Pump / impeller GAP
Hello all,
I’m looking to keep my trans am running cooler and any how… I’m measuring an impeller to divider plate gap of .04mm on a flow cooler and a .06 on a standard Wp. from what I’m seeing… it’s far to large a gap? What do you guys think! Also… not sure how I could truly reduce it outside of a press? Hammering def doesn’t work! |

You can put the divider plate on a flat sturdy surface like a work bench or the ground and use a big rubber mallet to hit it, its strong but will depress in enough to adjust the gap. A press would work too.
The gap should be as close as possible, some get it to almost touching without the gasket, then when installed with a gasket it will have enough clearance to not touch but be very tight. I get mine to about 1/16th of an inch and they work fine... some on here dont even mess with it and just install as is, the stock factory pumps had at least 3/16-1/4" gap from what ive seen. |
