Nothing as complex as some of you guys, but as soon as the weather breaks I'll be pulling the motor, installing a new cam, and going to a 200R4 overdrive.

Default Tempest project update

I started this thread in May of 2010 and have been "on and off" working on my project since. The car is now going back together and I hope to drive it this summer. It fits Car Craft Magazine's definition of a rat machine.....plenty of patina with many rebuilt and new mechanical updates. It should be a whole lot of fun driving, as I won't be worrying about scratching it!
The insulation is in, the Scarebird disk brakes are on. and the rear suspension is completed.
The instrument panel is restored and the wiring harness is in. The brake lines and master cylinder, fuel line, and drive train go in next. The bench seat interior goes to the upholstery shop on Feb.1. Much of my progress is due to the information shared on this site.
It is great watching everybody's projects come to completion, whether they are simple changes or wildly, complex fabrications. The information we share about our favorite cars makes this the BEST web site for 61-63 Tempest/Lemans owners.

It's funny that you mention patina becuase thats how I'm doing mine.
The engine compartment the trunk and the uderside will be base\clear
body color all the suspention and motor and interior will be super detailed.
The outside will look like the pictures I've posted. Same as the day I bought
it, I'm getting very excited cause the car is getting very close to be going
back together. This thing is gona have a ton of patina LOL.

Default Patina

I love the Patina look. Your finished car will be like mine...."weathered look" body with great detail under the skin. What tire/rim combination are you leaning toward?
I have not received a promising response on the vinyl flooring issue. One company told me the Nova floor pan is much smaller than the Tempest and they know it will not interchange. BUT, another PYer told me he used a Nova carpet that fit his trans tunnel with good results so I will keep trying other vinyl floor venders.

I've got a few differant tire-rim combos I'll use.
Steel wheels with poverty caps some old thorq
thrust and even some pro-stars, It'll have slicks
on it most of the time for local cruising and racing.

With his setup, the stock backing plate is discarded & a new caliper mount bracket is bolted in in its place. There is no dust shield behind the "new" bracket.

Default backing plate

Keith is correct, there is no backing/dust plate with the Scarebird kit. You strip everything off except the spindle. It looks nice and clean.

It would be pretty easy to make something up as a dust/water shield. Thin sheet metal bolted on between bracket & spindle with a notch cut out for the caliper to fit in.

Just wondering, I sand blasted every thing and all is painted in detail.
I'll just use these on another project. I'll get some pics of the K-member
up soon to. Thanks.
