What have you tall guys done?
I'm 6'4" with long legs. I'm a little tight to the pedals and steering wheel in my '65 GTO.
I'd like to set the drivers bucket back about 3" to make driving more comfortable. Surely I'm not the only big guy with this problem. Is there an off the shelf solution for this, or are folks just fabricating their own one off set backs? Thanks! Brad |

I'm 6' 4" and when I replaced the floor pans on my Bird, I welded the seat pans back about 2 inches for more legroom.
A 6'-7" friend of mine installed seat extenders in his 69 Bird and they work real well. When I drove the car, it just felt right, not cramped. |

I believe PY carries the seat extenders.
Here is an article on a 69TA that shows what they are and how to install them. http://www.automedia.com/Adding_Legroom/res20040501se/1 Different article at a Camaro forum http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=152422 Another http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=196091

Those seat extenders shown in that article won't work in a 65 GTO. However, there is a seat extender that will work and give about 2" more leg room. I've installed them on my 65 GTO and my 71 El Camino. I bought them off Ebay. They weren't advertised for a GTO, but maybe a Chevelle, they fit all A bodies, 64-72. If you can't find them, post back and I'll see if I can't find them again.

Buy a Darksider! I'm 6'4" and my '66 Catalina has plenty of leg room. Never did fit in a GTO very well.

My 67 FB has the driver's side seat track extenders linked above. I'm 6'5", and honestly, it's barely enough.
I just reupholstered my seats, and the improved rigidity now has my head scrubbing the headliner. I miss 2nd gens... They were very tall friendly. One thing I've done before on a 73 was put small spacers (stack of washers) under the front track mounts so that it elevates the front and gives a bit of a tiltback effect. It's not much, but it helps. I will probably try that this weekend, and see what 1/2" or more does.

I'm 6'4" with long legs too, in a 1968 Firebird. After some modification, I got perfect leg and headroom.
Eliminated sliders - added 3/4" headroom. Switched from stock to aftermarket seats - added another 3/4" headroom Welded custom seat brackets - added 1/2" headroom and 3" legroom Extended steering wheel 2" with steering wheel adapter. Lots of work. But I have a perfect driving position and 2-3" of headroom now (was 0-1" before). Only tall people can drive my car since there's no slider.

Both my 65 lemans and tempest have front bench seats and I have way more leg room as compared to my dads 65 gto with buckets. His next step is installing a set of seat extentions, Ill have to ask him where he got them from.

Just got the extensions in for my 68 GTO. They fit the side closest to the door but there is a hump on the side closest to the floor shifter. I plan to cut that side so the hump won't matter but I'm afraid that hump will still effect it. If anyone knows a fix for this, I'd love to hear it.
