Polish clear plastic lense
I have polish SS trim before with a buffing wheel and a eastwood kit. Was wondering who has polished plastic. I would like to polish the clear plastic lens of my dash.

Many companies sell plastic polish for headlights; it's similar to wheel polish IMO.

Depending on the depth of the scractches in the plastic, start off with 600 wet paper, go to red, then white rubbing compound. I used this procedure back in the day when I was driving early Corverttes. Used it to clean up the plastic windows in removable hardtops.

You can use a tube of whitening toothpaste and then use a liquid polish,..you'll be surprised!!

If the 1200 doesn't get the scratches out, go down to 800 and do it again. This is all assuming the plastic is OUT OF THE CAR. http://www.gtglass.com/headlight-res...g-compound-1oz I do this stuff for a living. |

I found it best to use a drill vs high speed buffing wheels on plastic as it is easy to melt and it does not take that much to get them smooth. The 3M kits are great.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/13023890?a...l5=pla&veh=sem The only problem with them is they step a little fast. I think they go from 600 to 1500 and than to 3000 trizact pads. For most items that are fairly clear, I would start at 1500 wet, 2000 wet, 3000 wet and buff with a light compound and you will end up with a great result. no need to put more scratches in the plastic with the lower grits. The Trizact pad and the buffing pad in this kit are great for minor scratches in your paint also. I have picked up many more of the trizacts for other jobs also. With something like the lense on your dash, you may get away with just the 3000 and buff as I did with my 67 lemans when i did it.

I have had good results by simply using Flitz and polishing by hand.
