WTB Driveshaft Yoke
Looking for a fine spline yoke to mate with a Super T10. I believe the TH400 yokes are the same.

Have one that came off a 67 turbo 400 driveshaft. Has 31 teeth, don't know part number. $25 plus shipping.

Let me verify spline count tonight. If correct then I'll take it. Thanks!

DRIVESHAFT/YOKE
I have a driveshaft out of a '66 A-body that had a Super T-10 and 12-bolt chevy rear end under it, if that may help. I'm in south Florida. Thanks, Bob.

If you had a Muncie M20 or M21 4-speed, it would have a different yoke than a B-W Super T-10, which has the same spline as a T-400. |

There are 2 different dia TH400 yokes...pre-69 it is 1 5/8......69-up... it is 1 7/8.
I assume you need a short TH400 yoke....there are also different length yokes. |

My spline count on the tranny is 32. I need to measure the shaft diameter now I guess...
I also assume I'll need the short yoke - but how do I tell? Car is currently an automatic, converting to 4-speed. I know the driveshaft is about 1" shorter for automatic cars than for 4-speed in a '64 A-body.

I think you need the short TH400 yoke...the sleeve is 3.5" long while the long yoke has a 5" sleeve. I attached a pic to show the difference.

SO, I have a couple of the short yokes and one long yoke. On the short yokes, some have slines all the way to the end and some start recessed in about 1/2 inch.
I do not know what year either of my TH400's are from. How do I know which yoke to use? On my race car, I am using a short yoke with slines to the end and it is out of the trans about 1.5 inches. On my street car, I am using a short yoke but with the splines recessed about 1/2 inch and with the yoke one inch out of the trans. Will the long yoke "bottom out" in the trans if its not the right yoke? I am very confused? How much is the optimum spline insertion for the yoke splines over the trans splines?

Long yoke will bottom out.
I believe the ideal amount of yoke protrusion is approx 1". I think you need the short yoke with splines to the end. |

There were over a dozen different T-400 yokes used by GM from '65-79.
The T-400 yoke you're wanting is one of the medium length ones, the '67-71 GTO/Pontiac one, or the '72-75 version. Looks like several contributors are referring to this length of T-400 yoke as the "short" yoke. The short yoke is a different animal. Pull one out '76-79 Seville & see how truly short one is! |
