Default "Eyes on Design" car show results

This Father's Day weekend I had the opportunity to participate in the "Eyes on Design" event, held at the Edsel Ford Estate.

The show is an "invitation only" event (cars are chosen by a selection committee) and benefits the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology. The show is also unique in the way cars are judged, not by how well they are restored (or survived) but by how the design (ie, styling) created trends, enabled technology or reflected the culture.

The theme for our specific display was the advertising artwork of Art Fitzpatick/Van Kaufman. I was asked to bring both the GTO and the Grand Prix. As expected, the vehicles were displayed with the corresponding advertising art. There also was a separate display for "Muscle Cars in Print" and, here was well, the cars matched the artwork.

Station wagons are from the "Family Vacation" section:

The "Muscle Cars in Print" matched the artwork right down to colors, vinyl tops and wheels:

The Station Wagons were invited because the International Station Wagon Club is having it's convention this week in Sandusky Ohio at the Great Wolf Lodge.

Looks like they had a good showing.
I'm on my way there now.

Congrats Keith,
What a great concept showing the cars with the original advertising illustrations. What a trip down memory lane.

Yes - I heard there were some pretty good stories going on in that "Pontiac Council of Elders". I missed most of 'em while I was out taking pics...

Looks like a great show! Thanks for the pix Keith!! I bet the concept of illustrations was Jeff's idea..What was Dennis doing signing those models of his car for the fans?

I missed a good one!

Good call - it was Jeff's idea to do the AF/VK display as sort of a "tribute" to Pontiac.

As far as the model: I believe the background is that Jeff commisioned a model builder to do an exact replica of Jensen's car. This builder is such a perfectionist that he cut out the model car trans and installed a TH400, plug wires, etc. He was "upset" that he didn't have the right part number on the cylinder heads....

I asked "...geez, is he going to put the correct 'date codes' on there?!"
