Percy's header gaskets
Any feed back on them good or bad? Thanks in advance.

I thought that Percy's description of their header gasket was possibly the final solution in gaskets. Unfortunately, this great idea only sounds great in print. First off, the center steel section cuts like a scalpel - I installed mine first and warned my friend about the cutting, and he still managed to lay a finger open. It's bad enough to get to our header bolts without a straight razor lying in wait. Next problem is that the carbon fiber fuzz is very thin, and the fit between the header and exhaust port has to be perfect. I had one go out about 30 miles from home and when I pulled the remains out, there was a piece of gasket (including the steel center portion) that had disappeared. I only had a used Doug's gasket around so I stuck that in there - 1,000 miles later the old Doug's gasket is holding up fine. The Percy's on the other side just let go last weekend and I haven't replaced it yet.

I installed a set on a Mopar...found them somewhat difficult to get slid down in there once the headers were in place...haven't heard any complaints of them burning out though.

I used a set on my sbc, have had them on for 2 years, have removed the headers 3 times and reused gaskets with no problem. These are the aluminum blow proof gaskets, not the carbon ones.

I used the carbon ones they suck. burned out very soon. Hooker Paper ones are some of the best cvheaper ones. Felpro are the best. better than the copper ones imo.

The RARE gaskets looked to me as if they are the Victor p/n 95038SG. (D port) I used to work for NAPA and have been using them for years. I highly recommend them.

so i also used some on my mopar, the aluminum ones. the didn't leak though there was some soot out to the edge, like they were leaking some? i's planning to reuse them, got some copper coat spray, was going to use that when i put the 440 back in.

actually the RARE gaskets I was thinking about are a severe duty steel clade gasket not the one I posted above, but you will have to call RARE for them they are not on the site

Are you guys who have had them burn through all using d-ports?
I'm using them with e-heads and headers I built. They've been on the car since May, They've been great so far. |

Great, I just installed the carbon ones. I hope they don't fail, I hate replacing the header gaskets on a Pontiac.
I wish I could remember who made my last set of gaskets, they lasted 4 years. |

Are the gaskets that come with Dougs headers reuable? I had them on my engine for 3 hrs when the cam wiped out and had to take the motor back to the machine shop. They look like really good gaskets. I have a set of Percy's but not installed them yet
