1962 Catalina Wanted
I am looking for a 62 Catalina coupe or hard top with the following requirements. It MUST have a very good RUST FREE body and frame. Interior MUST be good to excellent. Prefer manual transmission car but could convert an auto. The plan is an SD style street car I can enjoy. Engine and transmission not needed as I will provide my own. I would buy a complete running car or a great condition roller. The key is I am interested in a super solid original or an older restoration that was done well or a good recent restoration. I am locked-in on a 1962 Catalina as this will likely be my final Pontiac project car. I have been in the hobby over 44 years and I am prepared to pay proper money for the right car. I am too old to start on a basket case, however. Thank you and I look forward to some replies.

Mike, Dad has a 62 Catalina sitting at the car lot. 389, 2 bbl, auto w/ 8-lugs. I will tell you though it looks good from a distance but up close you can tell someone did some body work that shouldn't have been doing body work. So I'm not sure it's exactly what you're looking for but if you have time, stop by and take a look.

Thanks for the reply. I can't miss a chance to see a 62 so close to home. I will come by and check it out.

I wanted to up-date this thread and thank everyone for your input. I am super excited to let you know I have found a 62 Catalina. The deal isn't final yet, but I am so happy to have found this one. I will post some pics when the deal is final. It's EXACTLY what I was looking for. A great body, great trim, good frame and floors, excellent interior. It is a made-up car. Not numbers matching. But now a 4-speed with a 455. Has multiple mechanical and electrical issues but I can deal with all that. I have wanted a 62 Catalina from the day in late February in 1978 when PJ Heck took myself and 3 of my friends for a ride on the street in his real SD-421 Aluminum Catalina. It was the fastest car I had ever been in. I was hooked on Pontiac's for life after that day. Now 37 years later, I have my Catalina! My wife is just shaking her head.

Yes, so I guess you are familiar with the car. It seems to have been really well cared for by a caring owner. I think I am a lucky guy. The issues the car has can be handled over time and make a great driver. If it ever quits raining, I will bring it home.

So...
can I look for this one down around Xenia any time soon? Guessing 1,600' of concrete is pretty tempting! Good luck with her, Mike!

I do plan to drive it around on the street and enjoy it this year. It was built as a local car show type driver, not a track car. That will change in my hands, some. I need to see what I really have for an engine and rear gear. General plans over the next 2-3 years is to build an SD clone as money allows. Have a 500-600 HP engine under the hood, stock SD-421 looks on the outside. I want to be able to take a 1000 mile trip in it without issues. This is going to be a fun deal. If I can get some electrical gremlins fixed on it in the next month, I will drive it to Norwalk.
