Default Crazy Pontiac supercharger article from 2007

A search led me to this article. This Guy was crazy, the title summed it up. Especially when they mentioned nitromethane! Upper 8s in a 3200 lbs car with a 455 stock block.

Back in the late 80s street racing was pretty popular in Omaha,NE down Abbot drive. Police pretty much turned a blind eye to it for awhile. They cracked down on it in the early nineties. I never went up there, and was never into street racing at all, but I new of some guys and their cars that did. I recall one of the guys’ talked about a Pontiac that was suppose to be wicked that came from Lincoln. In Lincoln it supposedly was the car to beat. 30 years later, I run into this article. It didn’t hit me until after I read the article, the Pontiac they were talking about that was hard to beat was this car.

I remember seeing this car at the Barona Drag Strip here in San Diego back in the day. It was pretty wild. Cool car

I was there when it was run. The noise that thing made was frightening. You expected to be hit with shrapnel. It held together at least for that day and it was pretty amazing to watch.

Around 2006 I switch my setup from nitrous to a big procharger blowing into a Ron's toilet, Kinsler MFI, 16 injectors, K valve etc, on alky. Began with a stock block while the IA block was coming together. The point being to get the system sorted out first.

In testing the oil feed to the unit picked up something and took out the bearings. I shipped it to Procharger and with the quote to rebuild I scrapped the whole project and went roots blown.

A custom intake was built, we designed and built one off pieces one of which was a cam driven fuel drive/belt tensioner off the BOP belt drive (worked great and sold a few).

Finally got it to the track for testing and Bill, from that article, provided a lot of phone support for the fuel side. The last run of the season it was really coming around, still rich, plugs were beginning to get some heat on the ring and boy did it eat. Right up to lifting a head and torching it. The plan that winter was to move to billet heads and get it clamped better. No doubt this combo would push it it into the 7s as it was still fat and the corrected air (Boise) was still high, though obviously you can adjust boost. Anyhow, things turned, and that's another story.

Not sure what Bill is up to but I certainly appreciated his help. Great guy.

KGTO,
Got any pics of your Fiat bodied altered? I’ve thought about doing the same thing with the left over Dirty Bird parts I have.

SD,

Few pics of the altered, if you want to see more let me know. I need to update my signature since I sold the altered before I finished it...although I have a couple of it done from the guy I sold it to.

The intake I used was just like the one Bill used on the GTO in the article built by Vince Mayada

I should have held onto a lot of this stuff

Got burnt out, was building another car at the same time then sold my business. Wouldn't mind building another one now though

I was thinking of building a intake like that out of a Wensler to
get more power and be able to use less boost doing it.
I'm use a BDS intake now.

How is that, why do you think you will make more boost?

I use one and it's a huge step up from a BDS.Highly recommend. Don't get bogged down in a discussion on "boost" with George.

Jim
If he is planning to run 20 lbs of boost or more I understand but for 10-15 lbs of boost it would be a waste of time.
You can break all kinds of cool parts with 10–15lbs of boost!

I run 10-15 pounds of boost, because I run a Wenzler. It would measure higher with a BDS intake, but I would actually make less power.

Seen a test with Dave Frieburger, somthing they did on engine masters.
Made more boost with less drive and don't need a inter cooler, Made the
charge a lot cooler.
