Default High side port AC placement

Trying to put together my AC system in my 79 Truck in the next week. I am making up my own hoses as well. Does it matter where the high side port is placed in the system? I was going to put low and high side ports on the compressor. I had someone tell me it has to be right after the receiver/drier. So does anyone know if it matters where I place the high side port or even the low side port.

Lots of modern vehicles have the high side just about on the compressor putting it at the drier will give you a good idea of pressure in the condenser, which is a good thing in my opinion.
