Default 66 gto firewall question

Was at a show today, heard a question i never heard before, "whats up with all those divets on your firewall..............had to laugh, never ever noticed them before, thought all the 66/67 looked like this.........not that i pay attention to that kind of stuff.

So is this about the same for you guys with a 66/67 ?

Pics?

I would imagine all Pontiac A bodies used the same front of dash, so that part number would need all the necessary divots, dimples and clearances to accommodate any and all available options and build combinations.

That means there will be quite a few unused on any specific vehicle.

The two in the upper center would have been for a lamp.

Looks about right to me.

I had design/release responsibility for the full size truck front of dash and underbody for a brief period of time.

Believe me when I say nobody knows what every one of those dimples/holes are for!

I think folks new to the old car scene have seen a lot of TV programs where firewalls are rolled and custom made and look flawless. They aren't used to seeing the crude but effective stampings that were par for the course on these production vehicles.
