Default Tremec TKX install finished - 65 GTO

Finally finished installing the new Tremec TKX in my GTO.....5th gear is a game changer! Highway driving at 70+ mph is now a real pleasure.

Glad you are happy about that. So much better vs getting run over by the buses and trucks because the engine is not happy at 70+ mph.

Which TKX did you go (3.27 first with .71 5th or 2.87 with either a .81 or .68 5th) and what with and what is your rear gear ratio? I'm toying with the idea of a TKX for my '64 with a 3.08 12 bolt posi.

I went with the Nash 5 speed, many years ago, 3.27 1st gear, but my trans was built with a special "Equal Energy Split" feature built into the trans gear ratios.

If I bought a TKX it would be the 2.87 with the .81 5th and still using a 3.08 posi.

Although apples to oranges in comparison I went with the 2.87 1st and the .68 OD with a 3.23 rear gear 70mpg right around 2000 rpm and its responsive from this speed when you get on it, First gear to me anyways seems a little short so I could only imagine with the 3.27 first it would be over in a blink of an eye when into the gas, normal driving its fine but with a 3.08 rear gear it would probably be a good fit well worth the expense either way

Default 🔰 Photos of the install process❓

Yours is a 64/65 right❓Do you have photos of the install process and the cockpit❓

Also, do you have a console and what modifications if any did you need to make to get the console properly fit❓

Best Regards,
Dave

Yes, my 65 GTO is an original 4-speed console car. The only modifications I made during the installation was drilling 2 new holes in the frame rail on each side of car because the trans cross member has to be moved back to accommodate the longer Tremec trans. I also had to slightly trim back the shifter hole on the passenger side of the shifter porch for greater clearance of the bolts on the shifter stick.

Best mod I’ve done. You’re going to love it and will probably drive the car more now.3:27 gear with a 308 rear is nice(had that behind 454 in my 66 Beaumont and 68 overdrive was no issue with 308 rear either. Would pull vey nicely from 1800 rpm cruise even up hill
