Newbee Question
Hi all. I am a new member, having just bought a '67 GTO 400/360/4 speed.
I see numerous cars on line with the "Hurst Equipped " emblem affixed to the LH side of the rear tail light panel. My car has a Hurst shifter, so I am wondering if the emblem came from the factory or if it's an "owner inspired" extra. Any advice/guidance is appreciated. |

Not factory, the Hurst equipped emblems seem to be everywhere today on driver builds.
Congrats on the purchase. Welcome to PY board!

Congratulations on your purchase...Great cars. The Hurst equipped emblem is a common add on....but not on my car!

Thanks, guys. I kinda figured the emblem was an add-on but wasn't 100% certain. Appreciate your advice.
Here's a few pics of my new baby. I'm still sorting through some details, however, it's a great car! It has joined my '72 Corvette convertible, my '63 409 Biscayne and my '10 Corvette G/Sport in the garage. |

I'm impressed. My superpower (LOL) is spotting blatant mistakes. And your
car *hasn't* triggered it. When all else fails, I'll notice body panels that don't align well. Huh? Whoever put this car together had an eye for detail. Wait. This car isn't real. I'll wake up and have a good laugh at this silly dream. |

This car is mostly original, having a repaint (approx 20 years ago) and an engine/transmission rebuild approx 2,000 miles ago. All body panels have numbers stamped in them. Does this mean they are original? The paint is terrific! I can't yet tell if the interior is re-done or not. Seat covers seem too nice to be original and I can tell the carpet is reproduction material. The car was delivered new in California and soon went to Tempe AZ, where it lived until 2018. It went to IN then in a climate controlled warehouse and is now in my climate controlled garage, along with my '72 Corvette convertible, my '10 Corvette G/Sport and my '63 Biscayne 409 cars. The undercarriage is just as you'd expect a desert dweller to be - dry and no rust at all. This car, coming from CA is a "WV" coded engine, paired with the 4 speed manual transmission. I have much to learn about all this. It seems not many were made this way? |

I have a WW code (non-HO) survivor with all of its original CA A.I.R. stuff in place and functioning. Let me know if I can help you in any way. Grant |

WOW!
Beautiful car, get ready for lots of questions. Not many WV cars still rolling around. Hopefully the A.I.R. is still present, lots of unique details on those motors.
Welcome to the forum!! |

Soon I'll have an 8-track tape (threw all mine away a long time ago) and will see how well the tape player works. I have yet to detail the engine bay. I'll post some pics after I get that done. It's quite nice now but I want to freshen it up. A few new questions I have: 1. Did the spare tire originally come with a check-print cover, similar to the trunk mat? On mine, the color of the spare cover doesn't quite match that of the trunk mat. 2. Was there originally a courtesy light in the center console compartment? I found a socket as part of the console wire harness underneath the console when I pulled it out, however, it seemed to be "looped" off and not used. I do have a plunger switch in the console box, however, I didn't see a provision to install the unused light to the console box. 3. What does the base of the AM radio antenna mast look like? I believe I have the proper base (the part that mounts to the front RH fender) but the mast is a fixed unit rather than telescopic and just inserts into the base without any provision to secure the mast to the base. Any help on these items is much appreciated. Thanks all. This group is very helpful in helping this long time Chevy guy fit in to the Pontiac crowd. |

It sounds like the A.I.R. parts are there for aesthetics, but not functional. It's not uncommon to de-vane the pump and plug the ports in the heads as these systems are difficult to find parts for to keep them working.
Regarding your questions... 1) The spare tire cover was an extra cost option, it would be listed on your PHS invoice if your car came with it from the factory. 2) Yes, the console "box" should have a plunger switch/lamp in the round hole beside the latch opening (see photo). 3) See attached photos. It should have a telescopic "oval" shaped mast and is held on with a chrome nut onto the base that is threaded at the top. Hope that helps. |

Congratulations! You will find plenty of GTO knowledge on this PY forum.
Do you have the PHS on this car, which is a must. I used to own a Fathom Blue ‘67 HO 4spd. (WV) that was built at Fremont and sold new in California. As Grant posted there were only 914 code WV in 1967. This is my old HO car which is the only car I’ve ever restored. I sold it years ago. The new owner installed those silly exhaust extensions. I posted my “Car Billing History” for my old HO which shows pertinent information. Grant will be your best bet if you intend on getting things sorted / corrected under the hood. He owns a low mile ‘67 Unrestored Survivor that is factory correct in every way from the Fremont plant. BTW, was your ‘67 ordered with the 8 track tape player? If so, does it have the heater deflector behind it? Thanks for sharing.

Yes, that cover was likely added at some point. The smaller billing history card would tell us for sure if you can post that. They don't always highlight all of the options on those order forms.
Can you post some photos of the console and the plunger/switch? That's probably a reproduction base, I've seen this issue before with others. I would try getting a new base or maybe using some epoxy around the black plastic portion and reinstall it. |

After looking at your photos of the antenna base more closely, it appears that it may be the original. Perhaps the original mast was stuck (common problem) while trying to remove it at some point and the outer insulated portion pulled loose from inside the base.
