My daughter still lives in Erie, my home town. I called her last night, they had 13 inches with more on the way. Lake effect can dump 6-8 inches per hour, been there done that for just under 50 years, don't want to deal with it any more.
This is 53 inches of snow around Christmas a few years ago. |

Yeah, the NFL had the game at Buffslo moved to Detroit, for safety purposes.
I only watch football games with my Dad. It's what he does...he's 91 and in great health ( Thank You, Lord!!!) Watching a game that's getting snowed on is something I always like. This snow event will be unsafe for ALL reasons..

I don’t live In Buffalo but in the north east. We used to get a lot more snow when I was a kid and we had so much fun . We lived on a steep hill (about a mile long ) So we’d sled like crazy and build snow forts on each side of the road and have neighborhood snowball fights like our own mini wars. (Fun of course) We had a blast . Today I’m like, man I hate winter and I hate snow! funny how age changes everything!

It seems that every winter Buffalo gets whacked. Sometimes more than once.

Native Upstate Syracuse,N.Y.
Top 10 Snowiest Cities in the US Syracuse leads our list, thanks to its prime position near Lake Ontario. The city is about 20 miles from the lake, and it typically gets the heaviest snow when the wind blows from the west-northwest across Lake Ontario. This allows air to pick up copious amounts of moisture, which falls as heavy snow across the region. Many of the snowiest US cities, including Erie, PA, Buffalo, and Rochester, NY, are located here. Syracuse, New York: 114.7″ Buffalo, New York: 91.9″ Rochester, New York: 89.3″ Flagstaff, Arizona: 87.5″ Duluth, Minnesota: 83″ Erie, Pennsylvania: 81.1″ Casper, Wyoming: 76.6″ Grand Rapids, Michigan: 75″ Anchorage, Alaska: 73.2″ Portland, Maine: 70.3″ Source; https://theweatherstationexperts.com...ies-in-the-us/

I don't miss the snow one bit, since moving from upstate NY in 1998 to NC. Don't really like the ice storms here, but that's another story and less frequent.

Elevation
Flagstaff, Arizona is at 6900 feet.
I started visiting there in the late 60’s when my older siblings started college at NAU - more than once my Dad spun out on I-17 anywhere from Camp Verde north to Flagstaff …. Jim

I live near Raleigh NC, and we rarely get any snow. But in January 2000, the local airport reported 18" of snow. On my deck, I measured 22". It was a nightmare, shut everything down for days. It probably took a week or more to finally melt, my yard was mush. I can't imagine having to deal with 6 feet or more of the stuff.

I miss shovelling snow in Eastern and JST PA; good exercise, and rest of the day was productive. Now’s justa laying around for the next appliance failure or TH400 project.

While I haven't build a snow fort in well over 50 years, I still enjoy winter and snow. Of course, I still ski for enjoyment at nearly 69 years of age. I still enjoy blowing and shoveling snow. Maybe when I get older, I won't enjoy winter so much... |

The only good thing about living with the snow in Erie is, when it snows down here in central Ohio, and the people all complain about how much snow has fallen, (4 inches here, is a major snow event) how bad driving is etc. I just laugh, and tell them they have no idea of what a bad snow is. In Erie, when they close I-90, it's a bad storm, that happened during the present storm.
Here, bread, and milk are hard to come by when they predict snow, something I find comical. Here everything closes for 4 inches, in Erie it can be a daily event, everything remains open, and you just plod through it. If you grew up in a place with that much snow, you expect it. You also learn to drive in it, something people here are afraid to do. I also lived in Memphis for a couple years, 4 inches of snow would shut everything down for a week........... |
