Where to cut quarter
my 1971 lemans convertible had a lot of bondo in the rear quarter panel.
There is rust behind the wheel, and pretty big dents there too. There is also rust through in the wheel arch. There are also some holes and dents in the body line that runs just over the wheel arch. I have an aftermarket quarter replacement panel and I was thinking about just cutting it up into patch panels . My concern is that if I try to cut a patch for the wheel arch it will have to blend in perfectly to the main body line.. My welding skills aren't the best, so I am worried that I will distort the main body line. How would you patch this? Would you replace everything under the body line or would you just cut patches as small as possible to remove the rusted areas and then weld up the extra holes/ dents, etc. |

I would cut it just above the body line and replace it all. I would normally go just below the body line but it looks like you would hit rust above the wheel.

I would cut it 1/2" below the peak at the top ( where the primer ends) and put it in high. I would stop the same distance from the jamb area.

I agree with the 1/2 inch below top body line. the 90 degree turn it makes there will help keep warpage to a minimum and it makes it harder to tell you replaced the panel on the inside.

Exactly! Plus more access to repair the outer wheel house, less filler.
