Default 2009 G8 GT build date

Where do I find the build date on this car? Doing research before buying one and finding that some of the recalls/issues only apply to certain build date ranges.

If you have the VIN, you can check the recalls online.

Not sure where you find the build date.

A sticker in the drivers door will give you the month and year. I've not seen the actual date on one for a while.

I will check ours tonight and see if it is posted on the tags.

I know they made 2009 and 2009.5 cars, mostly to avoid having to honor the extended powertrain warranty GM had for the 2010 cars, so 2009 car production was extended to early December 2009. Ours is a late production 2009, not a 2009.5

Terry:
On my 2008, which you have looked at, there are a couple places where the build date shows up. One is on a decal which is placed on the body mid-pillar between the driver-side doors (where the rear door hinges attach) and the other is on a body tag riveted to the front shock tower on driver-side in the engine bay. It is partially hidden by the factory air box where the air filter is. I also looked at my build sheet and found a date, which I'm pretty sure is the date the car was actually built. I've posted some cell phone pics below. I compared these to my 2009.5 GXP photos and they are the same, so I feel certain it will hold true on any other cars you look at.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your research and search. I had mine out for a few days of driving it last week to keep the seals oiled and had forgotten how much fun these cars are!

Confirmed on our 2009 same locations.
It gives you moth and year but not the day of the month or week it was built. Ours according to that tag is an early build 2009 made 04/08

BJ, for some reason, your pics don't show up on my end.

On Australian cars the vin is also stamped into the floor underneath the rhs front seat. There's a flap in the carpet. That's how we check for rebirthed cars.

Check if it's in the us variants too is one thing I'd suggest.

BJ, can you describe more fully where this carpet flap is located that you lift up to see the VIN? Maybe a picture?

Here you go Terry.

Front Passenger Seat - You can see the die-cut lines in the carpet

Here it is with the flap pulled back and tucked under the back edge of the floor mat.

Here is a little closer view. If you zoom in you can see the VIN etched in the floor.

Hope this helps.

BJ, many thanks for these pics. Flying to Illinois this Friday AM to hopefully buy a 42,000 mile original owner car with Premium Package, Sport Package, and Sun Roof that was never driven in winter. Keep your fingers crossed.

Glad to help Terry. Good luck - hope it is the car you are looking for! Of course, pics will be mandatory if you buy it - or better yet, bring it by my office one day so I can see it.

Drove the car back from Decatur, Illinois on 8-5 and 8-6. Trying to post some pics, but keep getting "Upload failed" message. Any ideas? Still figuring out how to access/use all the features this thing has. Drives great. Lots of power.

Terry:
You can email a few to me and I'll post them for you if you don't figure it out. Your file size may be too large. If that is the case, you might try uploading to Photobucket or another image hosting site and then using a direct link to post them with the "Insert Image" icon in the "Post Quick Reply" tool bar.

It's Sport Red Metallic. After researching all the colors available in 2009, I decided this was my favorite. However, it was only put on about 9% of the 16,000 and change cars made that year. I figured I would search out the best condition, lowest miles, original owner car I could find, and then I would just have to learn to love whatever color it was. I lucked out that this car met all my condition criteria AND was also the color I liked best.
