Found this picture of a picture tonight while sorting files. It's the late Dave Johnson's White Warrior before christening. That's Nocturne Blue.

Default Class Racers

Here's a few we saw in the mid '70's. I may have posted these already. If so, please forgive. I just saw a pic of the Hard Times bird on this thread. Truman Fields was one of my heros back in those days. His is the 1st name I can remember being associated with Pontiac stockers.

This car is now owned by John Clegg from Texas pics below - for Jim Wangers think that's a separate car - the SD 440 Motor went into his PontiCarlo and the 74 T/A was sold - Don't know where it went .

Default John Zink at Daytona Beach 1957 Tribute

came across this video, but with no background info to go with it, hope folks here can tell me more about it, I believe the video was done in spring 1990, depicting event from January 1957, when John Zink set speed record for flying mile (no return pass) at Daytona Beach in a 347 tri-power Pontiac.

Interested in more details about the original event, was this Pontiac's first racing success in the Bunkie Knudsen era? about the car? about John Zink?

But also interested in this tribute video, who was involved, when was it done, is there a better (or longer) copy, assume the car used is a re-creation, who owned it at the time, where is it now, etc.

note:click image to play, you don't need facebook account to view video, best with the volume cranked

Not that I've got anything against running on rural roads- I just wouldn't expect any photographic record!

Oh, I don't know Jack, kind of reminds me somewhat of Fonda and So. Glens Falls Dragstrip back in '68... . Speaking of SGFD...

http://www.draglist.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3363

Video http://youtu.be/LQtDBRtHYok Note: At 1:50 you will see Ron Scott's A/Altered '23 T (upper left w 4 on image) which my father purchased the roller from Ron as he'd built a newer updated chassis Altered T w a flopper body painted Metallic Rootbeer Brown. Dad and I built a B/MP 389 Catalina used that engine in the Altered and also a SD421 for this car. This was my first car, the '23 T A/Altered, painted Pearl White over multiple candy colors...this car was given to me as a gift w Pontiac engines and equipment.

Those who know, will remember Ron had an artificial leg due to an previous accident. That didn't slow Ron down at all. As I recall going to his shop he was a really nice person and had great sanitarily clean equipment at his home garage.

Great thread. Thanks for the memories! Keep them coming.

Found these pics a few days ago, never saw this one before, 66 GTO AWB Funny car, called "Comanchee" owned by Tommy Dempsey and Jules Nardi, out of the Chicago area, I was told it ran an injected 428, Logge Chassis, possibly all fiberglass body, built by Jay Howell, (he also built Don Gay's 66)

Might be some "rinky dink" place, like "George Ray's dragstrip". His track doesn't look like much more than a two lane road.

It amazing how much Phenix City (the track and grounds) still looks like it did in the 60's. Very little has changed in that regard.

For the guys that aren't familiar with current day Phenix City, you really need to watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__IbtSYcJ4w

Have you guys ever seen a track that will allow 30 people ON THE TRACK while cars are racing? I've seen one of the 10 "Crew Chiefs" actually have their hands on the quarter panel or trunk of the car when it the car launches. I saw a broken U joint take out a guy's ankle years ago, and the show just goes on! -lol It is an absolute circus. We quit going there many years ago.
