Default Has anyone------

Got an aftermarket part # for the 61-63 U joints??????? I am out!!!!! Just installed my last diff short shaft that had a good bearing. I wear them out every other year or so. Was fine yesterday morning, went out to a friends place in the afternoon & coming back started to get a back end vibration. Knew what it was before I even crawled under the car.

I haven't been able to locate one. I took one of my originals to Master Shaft recently, and they searched their catalogs and made measurements for almost an hour before giving up. The guy at Arizona Vintage Parts found one that looks like it will work if you remove the rubber seal. I didn't end up buying it (and of course, I don't remember the part number), and I am still living with my old ones.
Eventually I will be changing the drivetrain so it won't matter...

You might inquire with Clarks to determine whether these Corvair pieces will do the trick.

Larry & Scott, I checked with Clarks today & spoke with one of their techs & he said the Corvair u joint IS the same as the 61-63 Tempest's. He said he is sure because he has a 62 tempest. I have the local NAPA getting me a set & I will see tonight if they fit.

According to Master Shaft, Corvairs use a different U-joint. I won't put money on it, but I'm confident that if it were readily available, Master Shaft would have found it for me. I would love to be proven wrong, so I could buy a set for myself!!

Default U Joints

Try these guys. Northwest Auto Supply, 616 241 5611. South Shore Bearing 617 471 7800. He as the axel shaft bearing. Then and Now Automotive 718 335 8860. Rare Parts Inc. 209 948 6005. They all seem to know the Little Indian. Good luck! John

Maybe this will help. The box says the manufacturer is "General" and part number is DJ-590

Let's be sure to start threads with titles that indicate what's included. This is an extremely valuable thread, but nobody would know it looking at the title.

Well.......... The tech at Clarks was........ WRONG!!!!!!! Same across, but the bearing caps are 1/16th inch smaller in dia.!!!!!!

Thanks Jay for that number. I will try it in my cross references tomorrow. Am also going to go through all the specs to see if anything matches up.

The search continues!!!!!!!!!!!! Have not found any u joints yet but did find a couple of NOS wheel bearings!!!! They are in the mail right now!! They still have 1 on hand. My finance department (wife) prevented me from getting all 3 that they had. If someone needs one, pm me & I will let ya know who has it.
