1962 vs 1963 wheelwells and tire sizes
Anyone know which has more room for wider tires? I've looked at my '62 and it doesn't seem very large at all. I don't have access to my '63 right now in order to measure. What is the max size people are able to fit in there?

I can't comment on the '62 but I have F70-14 Coker redlines on a Rally I wheel on my '63.
They certainly fill the wheelhouse and when conditions are just right (ie, backing out of the driveway while turning) they rub at the top center of the front fender wheel lip. Normally for a given series (like '61 - '63) the underbody structure and wheelhouses are the same and just the outer sheetmetal is changed for styling purposes. I'd assume that's the case here, so if you find out differently I'd be interested in knowing that. K

The absolute max on a stock 62 wheel well is 26x10.5 mickey tompson et street. The front of the 26 is real close and that width is all there is. Mine has a fox body rear end with wheels that are 8incnes wide and have a 5.5 backspacing. Also rolled lip about 1/4 to 1/2 on the outside.

I have P205x70-15 on the front and P225x60-16 on the back of my 63. No clearance problem.
I did have a problem the previous P205x75-15 on the right front hitting the front bottom of the fenderwell. That tire was out of round, so maybe a round one that size would be OK. I went from the x75 to x70 just to be sure. |

Keith, that car looks great with Rally1s and redlines. I think those are the best looking wheels Pontiac ever designed. I too have a set from my '65 GTO but didn't think they would fit the '63. Chris

Thank you. I like them too, and I like the "nod" to the GTO that they give.
I should mention that the car has been converted over to a 5 hole 4.75" bolt circle/RH threads. K
