Default overheating at higher rpm's

Gary, It sounds like you have all the bases covered. We had a dually pickup that would run hot at higher rpms. After installing a new heavy duty radiator, the truck still ran hot. It turned out to be the water pump, even though it had no external leaks. The solution was installing a new aluminum water pump....the old one must have been an after market replacement with a lower capacity due to a poorly designed rotor.

Jerry, radiator is an old re core and it works with the low compression motor but since I am putting in the higher compression motor, I thought I would go with a new 3 row.

Keith, I took another look at the propeller on the spiral cast and they are twice as deep as my rebuilt one next to it. I am thinking it is for a V8.

GT I might have to switch to a 160 if there is still a problem with my new motor, thanks!

Gary,, Look at the distance between the impeller & pump housing on the new pump & compare it to the spiral impeller pump. There should be about 1/2" between impeller & housing for the 4 cyl pumps.

Keith, here is a picture from the side and you can see there is less than half the distance required on the spiral pump. So is this a V8 pump?

Looks like it!! Pump on the right should be correct for a 4 cylinder.
