Smile Need driveshaft for 70-72 A bodyTH400 trans 2 DR

Need a proper driveshaft for my 1971 Lemans, has TH400 transmission in it, mine is too tight, not enough play in it. A good used one will do, thank you!

What rear end do you have? That may be the problem. I have a book that lists the length of driveshafts by application. Measure the one that you have now; center to center on the u-joints. You can email me to discuss: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

Whether 8.2 Pontiac 10 bolt, '68-70 BUICK 8.2 10 bolt, Type "O" Olds 10 bolt, & all Chevy 12 bolt whether factory 3R pinion flange or spicer 1310 (will need adaptor Ujoint), ALL for this application, will use the same exact length stock driveshaft. 55 3/8", center to center, with the medium length ('67-75) turbo 400 yoke. Throw into the mix, the shorty (Seville) style yoke, or one of the really long yokes like used in a '70 T/A with T400, that will throw off measurement.

With a 8.5 A-body rear swapped in, will need oem driveshaft to be cut down 7/8", so 54.5" center to center length with correct med length T400 yoke for '68-72 GTO with T400 or big output shaft Muncie. Myself & 2 others in N Texas pioneered the 8.5 A body rear swap in the early 90's, have had over 5 dozen oem driveshafts cut down for that swap, & have parted to the ground over 400 68-72 GM Abodys including many Olds & Buicks. If they have had nice driveshafts in them, they have been measured, marked with paintpen, & made it to the driveshaft barrels.

Once weather permits again, raining lately, I am going to take a closer look at differential & suspension, not sure what to think. Maybe question in Tech...

If you're checking the "play" with the rear end hanging, such as on a lift, it may seem to be too long. I've had to jack up the rear on some vehicles to remove the driveshaft. As the rear end drops, the lower control arms swing in an arc, causing the pinion yoke to move forward and tightening up the slack between the transmission and the rear end. This can also be exaggerated by worn control arm bushings or rear shocks that are too long. Just food for Thought.
