Any body ever see a number 8 in the block vin to represent B for Baltimore? Owner said it's original motor.

Have you seen the partial VIN?

I'd say it's real easy to mistake the 'B' for an '8' especially if it wasn't stamped real good.

If it does have an '8' andthe rest of the numbers are correct, mistakes do happen.

I'd also see what the date code is and see if the EUN are within reason if it does have an '8' to make sure it wasn't a re-stamp.

Does the block have the original broach marks on it?
(not ground on)

The EUN is close to the cast date, but the car date seems to be a couple months later than what I have?

Is the actual VIN around 114,xxx to 122,xxx?

The vin starts 114. The pad where the vin is looks uniform not ground down at all. Hard to see the cross hatch marks.

This is an image of a VIN from a 1970 WS.

At first I thought it was an 8, but I found a better image of it and it is definitely a B.

The first image I posted it sure looked like an 8. I found a second image that was a little sharper and it looks like a B, so I replaced the picture with the better one.

Can they really make that mistake with an 8 or do think it's a re-stamp? I guess the EUN is the tell tale.

It could be a mistake, possibly the guy who loaded the stamping mechanism couldn't find a 'B' and figured the '8' looked close enough.

Just saw this thread. I owned a Baltimore built 1970 GTO from '88 to '92 and it too had an 8 where the B should have been and did not look like a re-stamp. I always imagined that they lost the B stamp.???

poncho-mike, what's with the extra zero at the beginning of your VIN. I've never seen that.
