Default 1969 gto

How we doing fellas i have a question. So a buddy of mine found a 69 gto but the lady does not have a title so I’m looking into getting a bonded title. But aside from getting a build sheet report from Phs is there any way to know if it’s a real judge. Unfortunately the car is a basket case and it’s only a roller but aside from drivetrain everything seems to be there pretty rust free. Any idea what to offer for this gto if it’s a judge or a regular gto. It will be a project for sure just don’t see these come up for sale much so hard to Judge the price sorry I had to. I do know it was green with green interior and a 4 speed car? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Not enough info to suggest a value without pics. I feel the terms ‘pretty much rust free’ and ‘basket case’ are somewhat mutually exclusive, so a little unclear there.

The only way I’d feel confident determining it’s a Judge is PHS, and that VIN tag better have the proper rivets and coincide with the data plate. If it had a power antenna (rear) it’s highly unlikely to be a Judge due to interference with the wing.

If it was built before January 69 = not a Judge
Being built later than that is no guarantee of any form at all.

PHS is the only way to know what it once was.

There are clues to look for on RamAir cars , but anything can be missing or added by now.
Good luck to you

oh yeah
Being green , actually pushes it up to needing to have been built no earlier than late February.

Looks to have been an A/C car , going by the shape/size of firewall hole.
So it won't be a RamAir 4 in hiding , but could still possibly be RamAir 3 at best.

But ... the hood looks like it could be the original dark green under primer , and it is Not a RamAir hood.
And the grommet hole for RamAir cable is not present on firewall.
So the possibilities from clues so far suggest a base engine 350hp vehicle.
Don't see anything at all that hints towards being a Judge

You ain't kiddin, needs a lot of work.

I would approach it as being a run of the mill 69, and bargain from there.

Ask yourself if you’re ready to spend 60k doing most of the labor yourself to end up with a car worth maybe around half of that 2, 5 or possibly 10 years from now.

Bringing this one back from the dead won’t be easy or cheap. Probably closer to 100k investment if you don’t do much of the work yourself.

If you really want a ‘69 GTO find one that’s in nice driver condition that maybe needs a few things. Take out a loan and make payments if need be, it’s pretty much the same as throwing money at a basket case except now you’re driving it instead of working on it.

I’d run from that nightmare even if you can get it for free, if it’s not a Judge which our experts have already determined it most likely isn’t then leave it there would be my advice.

It’s hard seeing cool cars sitting like that and fighting off the urge to save them, I totally get it. But again be absolutely sure you can commit the time and dollars and have a place to take on a project of that magnitude, and be ready to get a lot less than you have in if you ever decide to sell it.
