I looked around online and was able to find the race results from the May 1971 race at Talladega, but couldn't find qualifying results. There is a film from the race on YouTube; I wasn't able to pick out Pearson's car in any of the track scenes but interestingly the pace car was a '71 Bonneville convertible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHw_eqQBzPU

I can't find the actual qualifying times or speed, but if you go to this link: https://www.racing-reference.info/ra...Winston_500/W/ The column on the far left shows the order of finish. The second column shows their starting position (which is done by order of qualifying speed). As you can see by the link, Pearson started 8th and finished 43rd. |

Guess I am picking nits, but from the title, really expected to read about the Pontiac 251 V-8 from 1932.
Maybe adding the word "modern" would be more accurate. Jon
