Default Finally fulfilled the dream

Ever since I drove my first Third Gen in the 90's I've always wanted to have one built like God and Pontiac intended, So this weekend we took the plunge and did it. The Quadrajet is just there for break in This one is gonna be EFI.

Fits almost like it was meant to be there!

My only concern is the alternator doesn't look like it will clear that low firebird hoodline, I think I am gonna have to relocate.

Cool.... and speaking of cool...that water pump pulley is BIG. I would put a smaller one on there to speed up the water pump and help that "correct" engine run cooler.

The donor engine and accessory drive pulleys are from a 1973 Firebird, If I have to rejig it to relocate the alternator I might look at a smaller pulley.

Well as far as the install is concerned it was very easy, We just removed the original V6 mounts from the frame. Installed 2nd gen frame mounts and clamshell mounts on the engine. Bolted up an adapter plate and 700r4 transmission, and then slid the whole Assembly in the hole. We then installed the original crossmember, bolted to the transmission mount, And installed the original driveshaft. Then did a bit of forward/aft adjustment to get good yoke engagement (trans mount is slotted so allows for 1 or 2 inch adjustment) And then made some minor tweaks side to side to get good clearance around the oil filter and exhaust manifolds, then we tacked the mounts in place and that was it. All in all from removing the blown v6 to having the Pontiac sitting in place was maybe 4 hours.

Some cooling systems do better with slower turning water pumps....
