I believe its ZJ not ZD code for a 73 sd 4 speed block. Mahoney has one that Tiemann restored with poverty caps.

Yes sir, that would be the one. He wanted to race me against my stock 4 speed sd ta, title for title. I think your bro (Dan) had done that motor for him and I knew way better. Thus no racing with Rick that day

Thanks for correcting the Block Code I posted.

Did / Does - Mahoney also own the Admirality Blue / White Std Interior 73 SD 4spd Formula ?
Someone posted pics of it after restored several years ago, and I thought they said it belonged to him.

I’ve made several offers and the price goes up each time. He now wants 100,000. Its like I’m bidding against myself. He says I’ll take 60,000, I say ok, then he says 75,000. I don’t even know if the engine can be rebuilt. The timing cover is so oxidized the timing chain can be seen through it.

Walk away. He has no intention of selling you the car. Many times this kind of person only responds to cold, hard cash in a bag. But he will likely die with it still in his barn.

It’s not his car. He’s selling it for the wife of a man who has dementia. He’s actually a friend.

So he is playing games with his mentally-afflicted friend's car and his friends' wife's financial well-being? Nice guy.

I do not envy your position in this, but I hope it works out in your favor.

This happened to me once. The guy asked for an extra $20,000 on the side (that his wife couldn't know about) after we had already worked out the deal. I paid the extra money because the car was a once in a lifetime find.

With so many questions regarding the engine I wouldn't be so quick to agree to his ever-increasing prices.

He's trying to find your "walk away" point. Basically, he knows what the car is and he wants to find a guy with a big bank account who wants it no matter what (and that guy is out there somewhere). If you go to 100k, then he'll raise it to 120k, etc, etc. Unless you're willing to keep going up 'cause you really want it no matter what, I'd walk away. I agree that if it's all there it probably is worth 100k. But obviously, it is a "holy grail" car as has been said. So, If you can afford it, and you really do want it (who wouldn't) then it's worth it.

That title in the man with Dimentia's name?
Wife has power of attorney?
That could cause some issues if he isn't of sound mind
And signing over anything.
Could be the " friend" gets to " keep anything you can get over xx dollars"
If you can see the timing chain, The body / frame can't be that good.
Guessing on value of unknown is a crap shoot..
Unseen at 100k?
I see a rebody...... my 2 cents

I have seen cooling systems that were never maintained do major damage to the thermostat housing, and do a lot of damage to the front cover, but never eat through it to see the chain..

I will repeat essentially what has said before;

Wow, I guess there are still cars out there to find.

Cool find.

Hopefully the guys friend stops jerking you around on the price.

I would lock up at the 60k and show him the cash ... I'd also demand a "signed" certificate title...

BTW... I'd give my left... well you know.... for mine to be a 4 speed...
