Shift knob question
Dumb question for you. Anyone seen this shift knob before? I’ve never found another online (not that I looked THAT hard) but I’m assuming it’s aftermarket and not any kind of factory item.
When I was a kid, I liked cars but it was before my “Trans Am” days. My dad has a 76 TR6 he’s had since 79 or 80. I recall him saying his shift knob was stolen at one point and I believe a friend gave him this Firebird knob to get him by until he got another one. I’m guessing that was in the 80s maybe when my dad daily drive the TR because it wasn’t driving again till the mid to late 90s. Anyway, he gave me this knob which I’ve had in various closets ever since. It just so happens I got into firebirds and Trans Am’s in the meantime (thanks Smokey and the Bandit). Just wondered if anyone saw these before and/or knew anything about them. Thanks! |

Im assuming its aftermarket, but still very nice. I had a black leather shift knob with that same center piece.

Yeah, the logo seems familiar from the hobby, but from many years later than the cars. I'd like it better without the logo, but it's very nice either way.

Agree. Font is just not right. Have mostly T-handles but this is a correct one.

Padgett, yours is for the 4 speed A-bodies. GTO and Lemans. Maybe a 4 speed Tempest too. I don't remember seeing the knob you show in the early Firebirds. I have seen some like Bhill86's in Firebirds, but not quite exactly like his.

Yes, padgett's knob is correct for 69 Firebird, A-body and Grand Prix. I posted photo a month or two ago of an original and a repro that Chris gave after I loaned him an original. Repro on the left.
