Default Engine Builders in DFW?

Looking for a good engine builder in the DFW area that knows Pontiac's, what to ponder starting over on my 67 FB except for the heads/carb & manifold, but need a recommendation on a shop that will know how to put the right combo together. Thanks!

tr709,

Though it's quite a haul from Frisco, I highly recommend Tony Cowell's Performance Automotive in Weatherford (actually Hudson Oaks on the east side of Weatherford). Lots of experience building hi-po engines. He built the engine in my GTO convertible and built my friend's hemi. Builds lots of race engines. Honest guy, great work, and reasonable prices. Tough combo to beat. If you're interested, the number is 817-341-1602.

Default Engine Builders in DFW

TR
Cain's in Plano does great work. The only drawback is he can be slow. Certainly worth the wait in most cases as he knows Pontiacs and does as many of them as he does big block chevy's. His phone number is 972-578-1212. Ask for Michael Cain.

You wouldn't be Tony would you?

Thanks,

Max Long Machine Shop in Irving, 972-579-1887. I asked and called around a couple of years ago and he was highly recomended, also he was the only one around with a Pontiac torque plate.

Thanks for the replies! Still don't know quite what to do. I have burned by 2 shops before and I am a bit gun shy. Anyone know of Allen Motorsports in Dallas? A friend has good things to say about them.

Yes Unchained I'm Tony!

Max has machined many pontiacs (and fords) for me over the years; absolutely no issues. Top notch work.

He used to work for warehouse automotive. Has he moved or taken over warehouse automotive? I've got an IA2 block to haul over to him next year.

Wayne does pontiacs? A bunch of my ford buddies use him and he's pretty close. I'll have to check him out. Thanks for the info.

I have used Wayne and I am not his biggest fan, very $$$. I used Plano Speed and Machine and they did a nice job.

If you mean Plano Competition and Machine they have picked up and moved. The move was not under the best of circumstances. I have a laundry list of problems with a friends motor that was incorrect. From a Pontiac aspect I don't believe Micky is with them any longer.

Buddy of mine had a bad time with a 403 and metal left in the engine on the first go round. Also heard of issues with an uncalibrated balancing machine and other gaffs.

I had them press in some new race studs into my rotors and they promptly cracked.

Wayne Calvert did a nice job of my SD-455 block and #16 round port heads several years ago. I'll be going back. I'm sure there are others who do as well but Wayne has been there forever and is still going. Contact info: Wayne Calvert Precision Engs. (940) 382-6815. 220 Dallas Dr, Denton, TX
