Hey I was wondering if any gurus out there could ID what year/car/application is for some hi-po "D" port manifolds I found...to see if they're suitable for my 4 speed '71 GTO. -- The left manifold has the # 8791837--- and the right manifold # is 9797072-8. The differences in number type lead me to believe this "set" may be from different years. Am I correct? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Tom,
While I'm certainly not in the same "guru" league as some of the other guys on this board, I do have a pretty decent reference library if anybody needs something looked up.

Your 9797072(RH) is a 69 Ram Air III manifold (quite rare) The match for it would be 9791637(LH)

The standard d-port manifold for 71 was 490142(RH) and 490143 (LH)

I couldn't find any info on 8791837.

D-port manifolds are interchangeable (except 307) from 68-72. The left side won't fit 67 and older because of frame interference.

Hope this helps you out.

Kurt

TR,
The LH manifold you have must be a '68-69 LH D-port A-body RA manifold. The 1st number should be a 9 & the latter 8, a 6. These are often hard to read after many years of useage, you can also ck for a date on the manifold back side. It may still be legible.

These lh 68-69 or 70 D-port factory manifolds are worth fixing if cracked or warped. They are esp useful on '70 1/2-74 Firebirds as the commonly available repro has a clearance problem with the Z-bar (countershaft) on these later Birds. You should have no problem with these fit wise on your '71 GTO...Good luck from another '71 owner.

Thanks for the info guys....I really appreciate it. Your right though that I must be mistaken about the LH one. It probably does start with a 9 rather than an 8--it never occurred to me that the first 3 numbers would've matched that way. Does that number ( 9791837 ) cross with any references? I'm glad I found them and will definately use them...I bead blasted them and they look much better now.

Tom,
Ol'Pinion Head is right on this...if you check your 5th digit on that LH manifold, it's probably a 6 instead of an 8, that would mean that you have a matched set!
In other words, the LH one is probably 9791637, not 9791837
If it is, you're golden!
Good luck
Kurt
