Who here has headers on their second gen T/A's? I'm looking for a quality set of round port headers that will fit my 76 T/A. I'm not sure I want 2" Hooker Super Comps. Anyone tried Hedman, Nunzi ect? They have to be able to work with a 4 speed and I'd prefer the least amount of modifications. I'd appreciate any info. Thanks

Rocky, I have 3 sets of round port second gen headers I've used and fit.

First Hooker Super Comp 2" good fit, need more of a "dimple" for bolt clearance at cylinders 5 and 6, do that before coating.

Hemdan 1 3/4" 3 " collectors . Flange was almost 1/2' off front to rear as far as flatness so Ihad to cut each tube separately(although that made fitting around oil dipstick easier) a couple of bolts almost impossible to get to and the rear most tube hit the firewall. I sent them back and they said headers were fine I must have moved engine back in frame! Collectors don't point straight back.I redid two tubes each side and a collector(mandrel bent Us and a hack saw and welder) and now they fit fine and all bolts accessible.

Hedman 1 7/8 tube 3 1/2 collectors . Much better quality. TIG welds good fit except collector on passenger side pointed at tranny. They did fix that one. A friend has their 1 7/8 D port set and they look almost identical and his passenger collector has a slight tilt toward the tranny. Don't know why they can't point them straight back not a difficult concept.

The 2" will have a lot more sliggish velocity especially on a street/strip type 400 hp motor. I'd use a 1 3/4 or max 1 7/8 header. Dawson Headers can custom make some and he has the Hooker jig and can copy the Hookers in a smaller tube or step even(I had the Hedmans 1 7/8 in a step from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8) for $750. A friend has a set of Dawson's on his E head 64 Tempest and they were and easy fit he said.
