When I pulled off my manifold to remove the broken studs, I found that the exhaust control valve stuck in the closed position.
I removed the butterfly because it was frozen solid. What effects could this have on the engine or did I help it by removing it? The car always starts and runs in cold weather so I never thought twice about removing it. Any thoughts? [This message has been edited by Krosati (edited 01-26-2001).]

They have cold weather in Texas? What's cold in Texas, 60 (LOL)? Seriously, you helped it by removing it. If it was stuck in the closed position it was inhibitting exhaust flow through that manifold, which will cause the engine to run hot and be down on power. As for any long term effects (ie - damage) it is hard to say.

one thing the closed valve will cause is detonation from overheating the intake's air charge. be sure to plug the vac. line that controls the valve if the car has one. mike
