Do you all utilize a real tree or an artificial tree?

I always haved use a real tree, I prefer a Frasier fur.

used to go out with the kids to pick out a tree at local tree farm, but both are moved out so we picked up a fake one, pre lit. LOL.

We have to use a small tree on a table so the dog can't get to it. I want one of these Christmas trees for my shop though.

I have radiant heat in my new house. I used to always get real trees. I love the smell. The radiant heat dries them out and they look like hell before Christmas day. Not to mention a fire hazard when they are that dry.

Artificial .... and I have about 1,000 suitable trees on the 12 acres out back .... got tired of trudging through a couple of feet of snow to cut one down.

My fiance bought an artificial Christmas tree the afternoon of our wedding rehearsal. Sept 8th 1989.

We still use it.

I still put it back in the box it came in. A box now shored up by a good bit of tape.

What kind do I prefer?

Not many good wild trees in my area of Alabama. My dad used (early 60's) to take us out along a power line and he'd cut down 2 or 3 small pines and then wire them together. To this child's eyes they were the nicest Christmas trees ever put up. The big old bulbs that never worked, glass ornaments, 3 (and later) 4 kids worth of handmade stuff, real popcorn strands and lots of tinsel.

For years we preferred living frasier and douglas firs with the root ball and we planted them in the yard afterwards. That was when I was a younger, stronger man lol. They weighed a ton especially with after watering the rootball while it was in the house for weeks (in a large plastic container). Had a few winters where we couldn't plant it until spring as the ground was too frozen. They would keep fine out of the wind until then.
Nowadays we use a pre-lit fake one (looks so real though you have to inspect it closely to see its not real).
It might be because we used to plant the trees afterwards but it always felt kinda sad to see all the trees that were cut down and not bought at one of those roadside popups that sell Christmas trees.

Artificial here. Less mess and a tree isn't killed for a holiday. And it's one to add to the 21 needed to breathe.... for one person.

I used to get a cut tree every year until I got a fir tree. When we went to take it out of our apartment the water in the stand split on the carpet. I looked and smelt like dog crap. And we didn't have a dog. That was the worst and last mess I cleaned up for Christmas.


There used to be places that potted Christmas trees, so you could plant and save it, but I've not seen any in years.

We have a real one, it's a 3' potted tree, bought at Meijer. Always plan on planting them in the yard, but they usually don't survive past February.

Always a real tree. Up untill a few years ago, My wife,myself and our son when he was young would always cut our own, but now we just buy a pre-cut one.

The cost of a cut tree must be up there in price these days. Saying $35 for a cut tree today, in three seasons you could use that money and have a lighted artificial that would last for years. We've had our "tree" 9 for years. Unplug it, fold it up, bag it, and store it 'till next year.

Personally I like an old fashion 1950's/1960's tree. An aluminum tree that you use a motorized four color wheel to illuminate. Just put the tree together, put the ornaments on and plug in the color wheel. Before I retired from GM I use to set it up in the office and had the color wheel on a timer. Gifts under the tree had to be made of aluminum (e.g. cylinder heads, etc.) in keeping with the theme. Did it for years.
