There's an old Chuck Norris movie where he drives a 70-73 Red TA. Can't remember the name or exact model.
One of my alltime favorites is "Dazed and Confused" . No 70-73s but a SD '74 and a '70 judge. |

I believe there's a yellow '70-'73 Formula in The Dear Hunter with Robert Deniro.

First on the list has to be McQ with his Brewster Green TA,
and a brief mention for Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (white 73 TA with a red shaker) |

73's in the movies
Quote:
Thunderbolt & Lightfoot is ENTERTAINING to watch all the way through. GOT ANOTHER! How about Cannonball with David Carradine? (I think I got that right) This one is mid 70's & features a RED 70 T/A with yellow & blue stripes. I watched it real closely once & figured they had atleast THREE different 70's painted up like that. As I recall, the T/A gets wrecked, but not as harsh as the GREEN HORNET got it. I'll have to find it & watch it again. Last edited by 2manyT/A'S; 10-30-2006 at 03:10 AM. |

The only reason I turned on American Beauty last night was to see the shot of the Formula in the driveway. As soon as the shot was finished, I changed the channel.

FWIW, I know a gentleman that was a Pontiac rep in Seattle when McQ was filmed. They used 4 or 5 Brewster Green TAs for the movie. The legend has it that the production company promised that only one car would be destroyed, but in reality all but one was trashed. Pontiac was so PO'd that they demanded to be paid for the extra ruined cars and rumor has it that the Duke stepped forward and wrote a personal check.
If you look closely you can see that multiple cars were used as they didn't bother to change license plates, there are at least two different plate numbers during various sequences. Also some cars had RWL tires while others had blackwalls. Also legend has it that the surviving car still exists and is in private hands in Western Washington. The PHS states that the original delivering dealer was the Portland Zone Office. |

Giles,
Great info on the McQ Trans Am. I knew that there were at least two different cars. One had rear bumper guards and there were two different plate numbers on the cars. That movie really had some great action shots of that Green T/A. I've often wondered why all the decals were removed from the car. Only the nose bird remained. Sure hated to watch the crushing scene. The Green Hornet would have made a nice parts car today. Jim |

The Chuck Norris movie is entited "Eye for an Eye".
He drives a red 73. Pretty decent shots, but definitely second rate to McQ. Isn't there also a few earlier episodes of "CHiPS" where Ponch drives a '73? |

Isn't the car that Ponch drives one that he bought off of some guy in the street who was having problems with it? I think the guy was going to blow it up or burn it or something like that. Didn't that car have a Formula hood with a shaker?
