'65 Full size tach fits what else
I have a factory tach that was removed from a '65 Catalina 2+2 when it was traded in around 1967. This is the big heavy die cast chrome cup that attached to the far left side of the instrument panel just below the dash pad. I'm guessing this was the same tach used in any/all full size Pontiacs in '65, not just this 2+2. Can somebody confirm that? Also guessing the same tach was used in '66, but not sure about that either. Any other years it was used?

Was used in all full size 65 and 66 only, face is a little different between the years. 65 has no redline, 66 does.

Ya buck, you're probably right because late 65 GTO tachs got a redline also.

Does anyone have an original car with a redline tach from 1965?

Tach redline
Mounting cup is the same for 1965 & 1966, all B-bodies.
The tach face, as discussed here, differs. The story I've heard is that GM added the red line late in the '65 model year because too many owners were assuming that the adjustable pointer meant that the red line of the engine was flexible - oops! GM got tired of replacing blown engines under warranty, so they added a red line. BTW - anyone looking to sell one of these (cup or no cup), please let me know.

Here's one.. NOT mine
To first sight it looks expensive but if the tach unit is back to new condition I don't think it's a bad deal. Ian http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272238467...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

That one is mine, and is very nice. Agree, sounds expensive, but add it up. Take a cup at $200 + a tach at $300 + having it gone through at $200 = $700. Most certainly I have some markup and would sell it w/out fees to anyone on here for $800 shipped in the us.
