There is one on ebay now, but this guy is proud of it, kind of pricy.

You might check with ('ol Pinion head) on this forum. He probably has what you need.

I finally found it, in the last place I looked, needs paint, pulley is straight and the bearing feels good. $75 + shipping.

Sorry for the hijack, but what years used this bracket/pulley setup? Were all of the 2nd Gen years with the 80 amp alternator the same?

Thanks,
Importsmasher

From the information I found it was used on 1970-76 Pontiac powered cars that had rear defrost and ac.

The larger case 80 amp alt was 1st introduced in late '71 production. My experience is it was first avail on '71 Grand Prixs & '71 big cars and a very few late 71 V8 A-bodies. Yet to find one on a '71 Firebird, but it may have been possible. When a/c was ordered along with the grid type rear window defroster, one received the 80 amp alternator, otherwise the Pontiac received the common 10SI style 55amp "928" or the 37 amp "927 (non a/c).

The fixed mount front alt bracket was used along with the idler pulley set-up on '71-72 A-bodys, GrandPrixs, and on Firebirds (late '71?, def '72-76). This was due to engine packaging. On the 2nd Gen Birds, if the alternator was installed with the more common B series 80 amp front bracket, the alternator could easily be pulled up tight & and rubbed against the inner hood structure, thus the idler pulley which acted as a tensioner along with the fixed front alt mount. The idler pulley set-up was not used on '73+ A-bodys & GrandPrixs. On those vehicles, there was more hood clearance & the more common "B series" front bracket was used.

I first started chasing 80 amp brackets & components over 20 years ago & have put several complete set-ups together for fellow HO & SD restorers. Today, have multiple tubs of bits & pieces. On my '72 T/A, when I bought it, the stock 80 amp front bracket had been cut & welded on to accept a smaller 10SI alt. It was a mess, & even though I was in boneyards nearly every day, it & took several years to find the correct replacement parts. Mid 70's Cadillac & Olds also used 80 amp alts & I've pulled a few 1015's & 1016's off such big cars.
