69 t/a 3spd manual update: got the motor & trans freshened up over the winter, sourced locally. A retired "good ol boy" who used to rebuild gearboxes for the race cars here at Langley Speedway was very familiar with the oddball Dearborn 3spd toploader converted for GM use. I'm lucky and thankful to have found him. Great guy and a wealth of old school hot rod info.
I'm in the process of buttoning everything up, and I just recently cleaned up the rusty looking cast iron tranny casing so it looks presentable. As I'm wire-wheeling it, I find some #s stamped on it. Lo & behold, it's the matching #s vin! I've been looking all over for it, clearly I didn't look close enough. It was located on the passenger side just below the toploader cover.
Now if work doesn't get in the way, I hope to have it on the road this spring.

It should have a painted DB on it. I have a survivor one from a 69 GTO. I don’t have it handy but I could check the color of the stenciled paint if you like.

They had all kind of paint marks on them. Ford and Pontiac/GM.

Thanks North & OG. Yes it does have faded yellow DB stamping & a couple other yellow marks. I took pics & measurements before I stripped it, (OG, your measurements line up exactly) and am now working on replicating them. I'll post pics when it's done.

Before I attempt to re-create a stencil of the Dearborn "DB" letters on the tranny (& possibly eff it up), is anyone aware of a reproduction stamp of these letters? I'm assuming they were stamped at the factory that way, being the quickest way to do it. I'm sure I'm reaching pretty far, but maybe someone can offer some insight? Ford forums have not been very helpful in the past. Thanks.
