Default Who makes the best FITTING Trans Am front air dam / spoiler (71 TA)

Finally getting around to painting the 71 TA so collecting parts for the painter. The current spoiler on there now is cracked in several places so I would really like him to start with a nice fresh one without a bunch of already weak points & crappy old repairs. My question to the group is who makes the best fitting one? I believe there is a plastic one & a fiberglass one still available.

Thanks guys & LMK your thoughts :}

In the sticky restoration threads at the top of this 70-73 section NJ Steve has a thread on his 72 TA . There are plenty of pics and info.
IMHO. I would fix the original... Ames has comments on this part in their catalog.

Roger that, I’ll check it.
The one on the car now is fiberglass & cracked in several places. I though plastic was OEM anyway?
Thanks

So I went & found that thread & read all the way through up to page 13 when I finally found it:

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...433662&page=13

Unfortunately it did not help me at all bc he used a NOS front spoiler piece that did not require anything.

Formulabruce - he did have to repair his original plastic valance & I think that is what you were getting confused/mixed up on

Exactly, I did. that said, a plastic welder can repair your valence ( has actual metal staples ).
IIRC the repop is far from fitting, similar to the Parts place repop plastic tail panel that is NOT shaped to the car..
I have seen Glass ones and I wouldn't be surprised if its original. Keep in mind GM changed vendors as needed too.
Tail Panel started out Metal..

NOS is obviously the first choice but they are getting very difficult to find these days.

I did some research on this before and was told Danko made a very nice set for 70-73 TA’s. They are made from fiberglass and not ABS. I contacted them and ordered the full 5 piece set in October and they arrived mid-January. They are not an “in stock” item so they wait until they have a few orders in before they produce a batch. I’ve been busy so i haven’t had a chance to look at all of them, but first impression of the passenger side front spoiler I inspected was very positive. They are surprisingly light weight and the finish is very nice. Honestly the inner edges (wheel well side) and bracket area are finished nicer than the NOS spoiler I had in the garage to compare it to.

I’ll try to find some time to pull all of them out for pictures this weekend. I should be able to check the fit on the car in the next couple weeks. My TA is in the shop for updates.

If you want to order a set call Beth at 305-934-8664.

The website is out of date and needs work.

R70Judge - thank you very much for the info as well as the pics! I will call them today. This is great too bc I was also considering replacing the wheel flairs too as they are not super tight fitting to the car up at the top & I’m not sure they are OEM either 🤷*♂️

So......
I talked to Beth @ Danko right after Christmas. They are super slow bc they basically shut down all production after covid & have slowly been getting stuff back online. Most of the long term employees had to find other jobs during covid so that is what is hurting them right now. She said she would take my # & LMK when they go to produce more. She called me about a month later & said they are getting close to running these & made sure I was still in for one. I told her yes I was in & to call me back in week or so when they start & I will give her my CC. One week went to 2 then 3 so I called & left a VM. No call back. Waited a week & sent a text message. No reply. Called again & texted & still nothing so I think they may be done now :[

-Anyone hear of anything about them?

-Anyone have a good spare front air dam they would let go of to help a brother out? :}

Thanks!

Looked at 6 of Steve Ames' Trans Ams yesterday. Original low mileage cars. The fender areas fit pretty well, but the under side to center spoiler was very inconsistent between sides of same car, and cars themselves.

I called Danko to order a 5 piece set in late January or early February, left a message. Beth called back several days later, she said they were a couple of weeks out, and would call back for my info when they were ready to start working on them. She did call back 2-3 weeks later, said they were getting ready to start on them, and would call back again when it was time to pay. Beth called again near the end of the month to get my payment info, payment went through on Feb. 28th. I was under the impression that the pieces were either in-process or ready to be shipped when payment is made. They haven't arrived. I left a voicemail a week ago, no reply yet.

I have a set I bought from Firebird Central that I did not use. My body and paint guy repaired the originals and we used them. The repops just didn't fit that well. Anyway, If you or anybody else is interested, I will sell them for $450 plus shipping. That's about $90 off plus no tax. CDOGGY81 gets first shot at them.

Burgess - dang man, sorry to hear that. That timeframe about lines up with mine as well. Please do let us know if you get them as I really hope you do buddy!

Jakes - thanks so much for offering to help. Do you have the 4 piece hard plastic kit kit found here:
https://www.firebirdcentral.com/70_7...p/spo-2012.htm

or the newer more flexible urethane ones found here:
https://www.firebirdcentral.com/70_7...p/spo-2100.htm

Plus the center section:
https://www.firebirdcentral.com/70_7...p/spo-2100.htm

Thanks again!!!

I have all five pieces but not sure which version it is. I will do some checking. They are the hard plastic ones.

Beth at Danko returned my call last Monday 4/24, and let me know that the pieces were ready and would ship out very soon. My 5 piece set arrived yesterday. My first overall impression is they look very good, and by just holding them up to the body, look like they fit well. They are very smooth and straight and look like they are practically ready for paint.

My car is at the body shop, and the welting that came with the spats & air dam is all twisted etc. The body guy is asking if this is normal or if there's a trick to installing?

Anyone have any tips/suggestions?

Does Danko have a website? I'm thinking I'm going to buy a set, since the ones I have are questionable.

Anyone get a set recently?
