Any idea what this winch came from originally?
I have an old winch that I got years ago with the intention of using it to raise and lower the board with my model train on it. That stuff is all long gone and I was debating on selling it. But, before I decide one way or the other, I would be really interested what the original application of it was.
The base is about 5 3/4" long by 2 3/4" in width. The reason I am so curious what it may have been for is that the bottom of the base is curved. This seems very odd to me. So, any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

No mounting holes in base? Seems like the actual winch was designed to move somehow

I thought maybe the lack of mounting holes indicated some sort of a metal band securing it?
