Default Help with horn contact pin

I am trying to install the horn contact pin in my '66 GTO, and for whatever reason it's not making sense to me. All of the videos I've seen on YouTube show a little notch in the plastic tube on the cancel cam that a little retainer sleeve on the pin fits into and keeps it from falling out. My cancel cam (see photo) doesn't have that notch, so I can't figure out how to keep the pin in there.

Thoughts?

This is a kit for a 67-69 Camaro. I'm pretty sure it has many GM applications, not just Chevy. Instead of the J-hook, this ribbed plastic bushing is a light press fit. I think I ran into the same issue when I swapped out the standard wheel in my '70 Tempest for the Formula wheel.

Search OER brand product #748741 as a reference.

I'm fine with this thread having been moved, but I don't know that it needed to be. The parts don't seem specific to '66-67, and 23337 YT had the same issue in his '70. All good either way, though.

Is that top section broken off? If so you need a replacement. If not, you can do minor surgery and add a notch.

George

No, it isn't broken off. It's brand new and is just how some of them are configured apparently. I bought both the cancel cam and the horn contact kit from Ames. The cancel cam is listed as being for '64-66 and the horn contact kit is listed as being for '65-72. I called Ames this morning to ask about it, and they said it's just what you get when dealing with aftermarket parts and there's nothing they can do about it. Kinda stinks when parts that are listed as being compatible are not actually compatible. I don't know why their catalogue lists them as compatible when they aren't... Money down the drain unless I can get it to work. May have to go with the part listed above instead.

Don't know if this will be of any help, but this is a snip from the electronic copy of the Pontiac Shop manual for 66 showing some level of assembly detail.

Appreciate the help. I have that diagram in some of my reference books.

A quick update on this. I decided to modify the cancel cam so that it accepts the horn pin assembly that I have. I used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel and then a very tiny drill bit to make a slot. That allowed the spring and pin to be retained and everything works as intended now.
