This current owner has done some of the needed sore thumbs.
It used to be Yellow on the firewall and underside of hood.

It is still Yellow on its belly.

IF this mid to late '72 build had came out of the Pontiac plant it actually could have a body color "belly".
Have documented this on several mid '72 Pontiac plant builds. On a Fremont build, I'd expect typical black under body.

Default 72 WW5 GTO

Hi Guys. I am the current owner of this car. I bought it in early 2021. The previous owner got it in 2005 and had a full frame off restoration done from 2005-2007 by Dan Green Restorations in Salt Lake City. He had the car painted Monarch yellow because his Stepfather owned the car back in 1974. When he bought the car, it was already repainted yellow way back then. For sentimental reasons, they decided to restore it yellow.
When I got it, I found the entire drivetrain was in desperate need of attention. Fortunately, the body, paint, interior and chassis were in beautiful shape. I pulled the engine, rebuilt it using all new internals including valvetrain. The M22 needed 3 forward gears replaced along with a reverse gear. All new bearings, synchro assemblies, speedo gears were installed. It had 4.10 gears in the 12 bolt and the clutches in the posi were shot. I put it all new bearings and races throughout, replaced both axles, rebuilt the posi, and installed a new set of Richmond 3.55 gears. The original HO exhaust manifolds were severely cracked and leaking. I installed a new set of R.A.R.E. round ports and changed the headpipes and mufflers . I bought a real 7042273 Quadrajet and a matched set of 2/29/72 dated KR wheels. I have sorted out all the bugs. This car now runs, drives, and sounds fantastic. My intent was to keep the car and someday hopefully return the car to Starlight black. But, life happens. Feel free to ask me any questions about the car.

Very cool that you were able to make a deal with the previous owner.
He had it for sale for some time for a fairly large number , which was supposedly less than what the resto shop had milked him for.

And want to clarify also , the inspections that were done on the car were back when previous owner still owned it.
Sounds like 4birds made some major improvements.

First thing I noted looking at the pics of this Pontiac plant WW5 GTO, even before I even looked at the pic of the invoice copy was the appearance of body color spray underneath the body.

As a serious restorer of '71's & 72's, have documented as early as mid 71 model production (right after the 67 day UAW strike), Pontiac plant A-body builds with an extensive application of body color underneath the trunk pan & floor pans. Not just a light overspray at the riockers. So far this has been documented up into the mid '72 model Pontiac A-body production. Would not surprise me if body color continued later in the '72 model year. This was definitely a Pontiac plant thing during this time frame. Not to be confused with how the under body was painted on '71 & 72 Fremont & Lakewood builds.

Thanks for emailing me a heads up on that car , John.
Brittany Beige with Jade Green Interior is a wild combo.

We definitely do not have it on The List yet.

15" Steelies with Poverty Caps - without a rim option .

I hope whoever buys and builds it will leave it that way. I think it will be absolutely gorgeous! I love the 'odd' combos.

My 71 GTO is (originally) Quezal Gold with Jade and white vinyl top. Plus column auto. I wouldn't change a thing.
