Default 1971 axle backing plate gaskets

Do 1971 8.2 axles use gaskets between the backing plate and the tube flange like earlier axles? I ask because when i search at auto part stores and suppliers it does not come up. Sounds silly. I know earlier (68) axles have seal in the housing with a sealed bearing outboard. My 71 has the seal on the axle on the outside with an oil fed open bearing.

'64-late 69 used sealed axle bearings, internal seal in each axle tube, Sealed Axle bearings, & a thin gasket between the axle housing & the backing plate.

Late '69 model on Firebirds, then finally A-bodies, bolt-in axle rears were mfg with tapered axle bearing & (outboard) external seal (71246). No thin paper seals with these LATE 8.2 Pontiac housings/rears or any '70 & later bolt-in axle A-body rearend.

I have found on 1964-69 Pontiac 8.2" rear ends #9777865 gasket is used to axle housing and #9774551 gasket is used behind bearing retainer.

Thanks, I really thought it might be dumb question. My car is a 68 but i cleaned up a 71 axle for it and when I assembled it I assumed it took gaskets. Are they gonna hurt anything?
