Carb Coloring
I wanted to share my carb coloring with you. The background on this is many years ago, I had a quadrajet “restored” buy a builder . The body just didn’t look right. I then tried restoring one myself using the prevailing method at the time- a flash coat of zinc and then dichromate. It still didn’t look right.
I then set out on a five year journey to properly recolor the carbs. I have finally come up with a way to properly prep the original casting to accept dichromate without a flash coat of zinc. The final product is a body that has all the iridescent tones that were originally present without the “brightness” that occurs when it’s zinc plated. It’ is muted and subtle just like original and NOS examples. This process is a dichromate finish- just like the factory applied. It is not spray on. My goal was to recreate the color/ finish that these carbs had when they left the factory and I have achieved that. I am a carb rebuilder, but I have waited to offer restoration services until I got this “right”. The photos don’t do it justice and I’m trying to figure out how to get better photos. I’ll probably end up building a Photo Booth. |

You’re a carb rebuilder? Have any Q-jet parts for sale?

67-Drake. I have tons of Q - Jet parts. The problem is that I am moving into a new shop and everything is palatines / boxed up at the moment. I’m waiting for some good weather so I can pull everything out and get it organized. It’ll stop raining here (Oregon) soon.

it’s been a peeve which I rarely vocalize how colouring is way off by many builders.
