Question 1966 INTAKE MANIFOLD

Looking for some input.

This was part of a recent parts deal and sadly this 1966 4BC intake had the center runner/divider cut out.

Do you guys think this would cause any negative effects if used as is?

Thanks.

Its hard to say Jeff, that would increase the Plenum volume of the intake manifold, and that is an area I don't understand well, It would be like adding a small spacer between the intake and the carb.
It works well on many engines, for upper rpm ranges. But I am not sure what it would do on a otherwise stock 230 4bbl engine. I am sure it would effect the low and mid range also, but I don't know how.
Sorry I can't add more to this. I was was told that you wanted the Plenum volume to match the size of 1 cylinder volume. As our 4bbl engines are really overcarbed with the Q-jet (that adjusts with the airvalve on the secondaries).
I think it would help with a Boosted engine.

Yes agree with camerjeff it’s hard to tell. Must have been long ago before dremels and grinders. Looks like they may have drilled holes in it and chipped it off? I think it would run about the same but with a little more fuel consumption.

Thanks, guys.
This last load of engines/parts came from a gentleman who was running it competitively in an International Scout so I guess mileage/consumption wasn't an issue.

For a stock carburetor application, I probably wouldn't use it. If you were doing an EFI upgrade, I think it is worth saving. In the EFIs all the "barrels" open together. Some benefit to having it all opened up. Toyed with the idea of doing it to my manifold, but couldn't bring myself to hack up a good original manifold.

It looks like someone fired up a big cutting torch to remove the divider section.

I cannot imagine that would help airflow or power output, especially on a stock engine carb setup.

Jeff was that intake on the motor used in the Scout? I noticed it was running a cool can on the fuel line. Have not seen one of those in years.

Do you know what kind of racing it was used for? Mud-Bogger?

Like mentioned above, it might actually be a good choice for an EFI intake if all the slag and rough sections were smoothed out.

This manifold set was in with all the extras and I'm not sure if it was a past or future setup.

I listed it with all these details.

Maybe someone can use it?

Looking at the intake I am surprised the engineers designed it with the huge secondaries dumping so close to the middle cylinders with those short runners.
It seems like the four outboard runners would get less fuel/air than the 2 in the middle.

I wonder if they ever considered mounting the carb with the primaries closest to the ports. Probably would make the uneven distribution more pronounced running on the primaries.

Question

I'm sure they went through lots of testing for balance.
The runners are not fully separated,
which makes me curious about how this intake would perform with the dividers hogged out.
