My 389 tri power has a 195 t stat in it it runs around 210 - 220 I know alot of people like them to run cooler but I have heard that 210 - 220 is not uncommon for these motors. I would like any input or advice that anyone would have on this. I just really need to know for sure if it is not running to hot. Thanks

You are running to hot.
Use a 160 thermostat. Use an 180 tops. The car should only run 200 on a hot day in the summer.

To verify your temp gauge acuracy drop to a 185 deg. thermostate, which I belief to be the max you should be running anyway. If your temperature remains at 210-220deg. than your gauge is reading correct and you need to look at ways to get it down. If you are now showing 195 deg. than your gauge is reading 10 deg. on the high side and I would see no need to worry.

Hozy,
I had a 64GP that ran at 220 to 230 with the factory gauges. I thought that it was way too hot. I took it to a radiator shop. And told him what was going on. He took a real accurate gauge and put it in the open radiator cap hole and let the car run until the thermostat opened. Right on 160 like the thermostat was rated. Wow the gauge was over 50 degrees off.
