Have only seen about 6 legit Invoices for cars with VOE.
2 of them were parted out - no longer amongst us.

Other than "The Humbler Ram4 commercial car" this convertible is probably the next highest rank on the totem pole of VOE.
But it does seem way way overboard on the BaT auction price.
If 2 or 3 collectors wanted it that bad - then that is what it was worth to the millionaire's/billionaire's of the hobby.

I dont see how it’s a whole lot different than ram air , it’s just on the other end. It’s a rare and desirable option I’m not surprised it fetched good money A new dodge hellcat is 6 figures , many electric cars are $150 -250k This is a 50 year old car with a pretty rare option.

I know I’ve never seen one w that option and I’ve seen a bunch of ram air cars, so while it may not be as desirable as a ram air car, it’s probably more rare.
Really cool car and I’m happy to see Pontiac’s brining some good $$ !

I have a VOE car with original engine and 4 spd. I bought a set of reproduction VOE mufflers in stainless from Waldron exhaust years ago. I remember they were made by Tom Hand I believe. How rare are these reproductions?

Tom posted earlier in this thread about how many he made.

I'm not sure the ones from Waldron are hand made by Tom.

Sure seems like worthwhile performance option to me if it opens up the exhaust. Many a race car has ram air but you’ll rarely see a race car that doesn’t open up the exhaust to gain power also so…

I own a RA car so not knocking ram air but feel this option deserves more respect / credit than it gets.

GW, you are correct. Waldrons were making their pwn. The ones I fabricated have 304 st. st. shells and the later ones also have 304 inlet and outlet tubes but early ones are 409 st. st tubes and internal tubing.

My Firebird has the rare factory trunk light option. According to PHS it was a $3.50 option but few people checked it off. Haven't heard just what kind of a performance boost but I'm sure it is there.
Anyway, given the rarity, it has to up the value by what? 20K...maybe 30K.
And it is the original factory unit, not manufactured to look like original!

Mysteriously optioned car indeed. We'll never know the logic. The red Formula wheel is kind of odd.

Not really the same as uncorking the exhaust. But I’m sure it adds some value. Just like a power seat. But let’s face it these are PERFORMANCE CARS. And every drag racer in the 60s dropped the exhaust on these cars at the track. (They had to run the exhaust in stock eliminator BTW but could open it.).

This option if I understand it’s operation correctly allows you to open the exhaust without dragging your poncho azz under the car!

So we can all make snarky remarks about lights but this was a Performance option like ram air , not a trunk light,

And that’s why people bought these cars for the performance otherwise they’d have bought a caddy

I'm sorry I came across as snarky but, if the original purchaser was thinking performance , why not spring for the top h.p. motor instead of the VOE option that adds only a questionable increase of power if any. What it does is make the car sound more powerful, not necessarily a bad thing.
And, my trunk light is the original factory piece, not something fabricated (and quite well from what others have posted) after the fact. I don't really think that the trunk light adds any value to my Firebird, I was just trying to inject a little reality into the whole collector market.
