Default AC question.

I have an existing line set from my coil to my outside unit I hope to use. I'm replacing a 2.5 ton with I believe a 3 ton 16 SEER--been a while since I looked. The coil suction tube(?) is still sealed from the factory and I wonder if the line set is adequate size? Inside the inspection panel the copper line is almost the exact same size as my line set (about 3/4" OD). However, on the end of my coil's copper line there is a bulb of a larger size. Is that made to cut open and solder the line set into? Or is the line set supposed to be of that larger bulb-end size and sleeved with a coupling?

A and B are just short of 3/4"
C is over 7/8"
TIA,

Yes you cut the last 1/4 inch off the coil and ream it out with the pipe cutter. Then cut that bs end off the lineset, clean the outside of the 3/4 copper, and insert it into the bell end on the coil. Then braze together, do not use soft solder! Looks like an amana or goodman coil. Do not braze if the txv bulb is attached inside as you will mess up the txv, detach it and let it cool and then rehook it up. Come to think of it if it does not have a txv you will not get 16 SEER out of it. Good luck

Oh an 3/4 is fine for 2 1/2 ton. Is your new outdoor 410A? How are you going to evacuate the system? Do you have a HVAC buddy helping?

Yep, it's a Goodman. The exp bulb is still in it's box ready for assembly. My neighbor is going to do the birthing, but I wanted to make sure the lineset was good. Thnx.

The size of the line will depend on distance.

Yep you will be good on that length. Some manufacturers recommend downsizing the suction line with 410A. You got a good neighbor.
