66 power brake master cylinder color
Didn’t see the answer via a search. Restoration Guide is a little confusing. It says “ The 1966 power brake system was the same as that used on the 1965 GTO, except for the revision to the rear brake line and block as specified earlier.”
When I look back at the 1965 info, for standard brakes “The master cylinder assembly (part number 5465180) was painted black.” Under the section for 1965 power brake, there is a lot of detail on master cylinder part number(546085) for the cap, cap retainer, booster, check valve, etc, but no mention of what color the power master cylinder is. I have a few black and white engine compartment photos from vintage magazine articles on the 1966 GTO when the cars were new. In these photos the power brake master cylinder looks to be black. Is that correct? Is it gloss black or satin black?

FWIW
90% of the highly restored '66s as well as a few "Survivors" I have examined all bore a "Natural" metal finish on the Brake Cylinder.
I ended up doing mine the same way. High Temp Cast Iron with a Satin Clear over that. Right or Wrong it looks good and has held up well.

Cast is pretty much standard but black was OEM.
